Ah yes! Fixed another one! If you have Norton Internet Security, and you wish to view pics and avatars, you must go to privacy settings, advanced, and "permit" information about visited websites. This also fixes the problem of not being allowed to view window stickers at Dodge.com when you browse dealer inventory. I believe at worst, Jack might find out I was at "Obese Bikini Babes" for a spell before I logged into DTR!
But at least I won't have to suffer the embarrassment of being caught at the "other" diesel site.
OK Hannibal it's your decision. It also allows "Obese Bikini Babes" and their partners to view that info as well. It also allows them to download bots without your knowledge and those bots will ultimately get xferred to DTR servers with your next uploaded photos.
Jack, asking users to reduce their security is gonna bite you... it's gonna.

ummm, what are you talking about? If you want to view my site, then you have to do what's appropriate to view it on your end. A properly configured firewall will view it just fine. Your computer security is not my problem.

Is this in any way related to DTR adware? Don't think its zone alarm's set up here.

Nope. It's your security settings in your browser (and/or) your personal firewall settings. If you have your firewall blocking your referer information, then you will be blocked from receiving certain images from the website.

If you're using Opera as your browser, it may provide for eliminating sending referer information. If so, then you would have to turn that off.

I just made a change to the image rule that allows blank referers to see the images now. If you guys find that it's working now, then yes, your firewall or browser is blocking referer information, which will soon be required to visit our site at all. Unfortunately, you can thank bandwidth thieves for this, but it's going to be done. I'll leave it this way for a day or two until I find out if it's working for you or not.

A bandwidth thief is a person who posts their picture on a site, then hotlinks to it from another.

For instance, lets say a person posts a picture of their truck in the DTR photo album. Lets also assume that the picture is 200k in size. This person then goes over to the TDR and posts the picture in a thread. Each time someone reads that thread on the TDR, that picture is downloaded from my site. Now, lets assume that the thread is read over there 200 times. Those 200 views have cost me 4GB worth of bandwidth. Not good, and it's not easy on the wallet. Now you can understand why I'm going to be so strict on images from this point on.

What really bothers me is those people who think they can use my avatars on any site they want, and use my bandwidth to do it with.

Thanks Jack I appreciate you reminding me my PC security is my problem. As is also restoring it after those sundry bots and .exe files get downloaded no matter how benign they appear.
I'll be leaving mine set like it is. Much of my time is spent repairing restoring customers' system integ so you are right indeed, it is not your problem. I’m not taking issue with your attempt to secure your bandwidth. You should. If you want my help let me know.
I'm not one of the guilty ones and please don't think I'm getting defensive, I just happen to have some experience, just not with pop-up ads in the mix.

Thanks Jack.

I still don't see the avatars on this site. I thought it might be related to my manual configuration of my hosts file to drop unwanted sites directly into the bottomless pit of 127.0.0.1

I don't think it would be your hosts file. If you have ad blocking enabled, and you cannot see our ads, then sometimes you might have problems seeing other graphics that your software might deem an advertisement. I've seen it before, but it's somewhat rare.

Don't know about other firewalls but with Norton, you can select one website to allow certain functions. The rest can have the highest settings if you so desire. I can lighten up on that one setting for DTR and Dodge.com but leave it high for everything else. You can also set obese bikini babes to the highest settings while everthing else is at default settings. I can understand how allowing that one setting will allow DTR to know if I'm accessing an image from another site or from DTR. I don't see that as unreasonable or a dire threat to my computer's security. If it is, I'll restore it.

Hi all, I found my problems run deep, and have nothing to do with the forum.

The cookie adjustments are missing from my browser, appears to be related to some malware/adware/spyware issue.

I use zonealarm, norton, adaware, and spybot, but something still got me.

Windows reinstall, sigh...
