On my own I seemed to remember that there is a built in firewall on my dsl unit. I got into it and lowered the level of the firewall from medium to low and bingo, it connected.

Now nothing has changed on my system so something on the board has changed that gets filtered through the firewall. Now I know the problem here, but I hate to go to a lower filtering. Wonder if you might be able to get it back to the other level that it was on before.

I am not twisting your arm, and if it is necessary to be this way, so be it. But something did change on the board. My worry here is that I run 98se and there is no longer a virus program for my computer. Mine ran out in December and cannot be renued, the newer version will not run on my computer so I am stuck with only the firewall.

Thanking you for all the effort you put in.

Bill
Haulin,

You should be able to go in and raise your security settings on your firewal and open up the induvidual port to the site. The port is 8080 and you should open it up in both directions. I hope this helps. In the mean time, I will try and find a different way to do the caching. I've done this because it saves on bandwidth and makes the images a lot faster to load for most people. ..and even though server load wasn't a problem, the load on the machine dropped 30% as soon as I put caching in place. I guess we'll have to let it go for a few days and see if we can work this out.

Ok guys, I pulled the caching out. Let me know if that works or not. I suppose I could try and cache the whole site and see what that does

Works for me now, but, it may have been my internet itself. I noticed it after I logged in 3 days ago(my apartment complex requires us to log in every 3 days), and I logged in today, and it works, so who knows.

Haulin, for your virus stuff, check out Avast virus software on the web. Its free for home use, and I've been running it for awhile with no problems.

It's not the internet. It was the way caching was setup on the site. Some people couldn't see the cached content because their firewalls were blocking port 8080

Thanks guys, I appreciate that. And you're very welcome I have to go back to the drawing board on the caching thing, but this is good to know! you guys caught a bug and now we have to work to fix it. The next time we roll this out, you won't even notice the difference.

It's working fine on this end now. Funny though, I never noticed any problem working from the house.

Yep, that is what most guys noticed. The firewall settings at your work are more stringent for outbound traffic then at home. So at home, you were able to hit port 8080 but at work, you were not. That is why you could get some data, but not the cached data.
