When reading posts on this site, and several others, I often encounter little boxes with little red X's in the box, usually where I would expect a picture.

I have tried clicking these X's, to no avail.

I am not very computer-bright, some would say not bright at all; but, what do these little red X's represent??

Someone linked a photo from another location. And the picture has been removed from that site, the site is down or you don't have access to the site. The little red x is a placeholder for the image.

You can sometimes right click on the picture and choose "Show Picture", but most of the time if it didn't come in the first time, it won't.

What Internet Browser are you using?
