Re:Question for the Moderators

Sometimes I am a little surprised to see stuff moved but it does not bother me. I think this is a great site and that the moderators do a great job. I also find that although I own a third generation that some of the previous generation threads help me to understand my truck a little better. Every little bit of knowledge helps. OK, so it takes a few minutes longer to read. Big deal!!!!

Re:Question for the Moderators

Well, the air filter thread pertained the 3rd gens as that is what I drive now. The problem with moving it to the HP/aftermarket section is that now I get replies from those that are uninformed about 3rd gens. I appreciate all the replies but look at the thread now. It is completely off track and most of the replies are from those that don't drive 3rd gens. What I wanted was 3rd gen owners to answer my question.
There are many differences between the 2nd and 3rd gens. As someone else stated, I want to be able to go the the 3rd gen sections and be able to get all the info I need. That way I don't have to scan through so many posts that don't pertain to me. I'm sure it's the same for the 1st gens also. Many of the last posts I have made have been moved and it is a little irritating but I guess I will have to live with it as it is not my site.
I still appreciate all the info I get from the site even if it is harder to get it now.....

Re:Question for the Moderators

OK,,,OK,,,, : ,,,,,
I want a separate forum for 1999 Sports (first year of the different Sport frontend with different headlights the other ones don't have),,,, that are Intense Blue (a color they don't offer anymore),,,, that are two wheel drive (so I don't have to read about trackbars and being too high for my 5er),,,, that are owned by bikers (cause we all like to put Harley stickers on the windows).

On a serious note,,,, It would be nice to have a forum for every generation with all the sub-forums, but we don't. I'm sure that we can all agree that any accessory that is made for a 1st gen, has been made for a 2nd gen and is also being made for the 3rd gens. I don't know of any companies that make stuff for just one generation of truck. Yes it may take a little time to skim through the other posts and you may get a reply from someone who hasn't read your signature, but is it really that BIG of a deal? We try to make the site as member-friendly as possible and we are always trying to improve it when circumstances allow. ;D

Dennis

Re:Question for the Moderators

Rather than arbitrarily moving a thread when there is a question where it should be located. It would seem the appropriate action would be to request the original author to clarify the category, modify the original post to limit its scope within the category it was placed. Without modification the move could be made.

On the otherhand I have seen numerous posts on topics concerning 2002 and before that were with the 3rd generation threads. Simply because the author didn't get enough responses from 2002 owners and thought 2003 owners might be able to answer their question. These should be removed. If I want to answer a 2002 question, then that is where I will go.

8) 8)

Rather than arbitrarily moving a thread when there is a question where it should be located. It would seem the appropriate action would be to request the original author to clarify the category, modify the original post to limit its scope within the category it was placed. Without modification the move could be made.

[/quote]

The only reason I would not advocate taking that action, is because this would require the moderator to send a message to the author asking that corrective action be taken. Then there would be a follow message because the individual may not understand either the intent or the rule and want clarification.

This could then also lead to another discussion and a follow up by the moderator to be certain the corrective action was then taken. This would amount to even more work being dumped on a volunteer individual, and could all be avoided in the first place if the stuff were just posted where it belonged in the first place.

You have to understand that these people are taking the time from their own busy schedules to try and help make this place better for everyone. It is far more practical for the moderator to move the "offending" thread, taking them just a fraction of the time needed to make the first contact with the author. Leaving the moderator time to move on and look through more of the posts in their area.

I don't think you really understand the amount of work there is in moderating a place that receives in excess of 280,000 hits a day. If we have to then stop and talk with each individual about his boo boo, it would increase the work load substantially.

We do not claim as moderators to be perfect in any way, we merely try to do our best as we humanly can here, while also trying to enjoy the site ourselves. Mistakes have and will continue to be made by us here.

As the site grows in membership so does the opportunity for mistakes,we do however try to learn from these mistakes, hopefully improving the way we moderate the site.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated here, Anything we feel we can successfully incorporate into our methods here, will be given serious consideration by the staff.

Thank you for your input.

Re:Question for the Moderators

Ah, quit yer whinin'. :'( Us 1st gen guys don't even have separate drivetrain and non-drivetrain forums, you 3rd gen guys are spoiled with two forums. I guess you want to keep up with the 2nd gen guys who get 4 forums. I'm with the moderaters on this one, if you're too lazy to click on High Performance to find out about bombs, you're just hopeless.
