Question for the Moderators

I see no reason why when someone writes about an air cleaner or whatever for a 3rd Gen Ram that it has to go to the "After Market High Performance" area. It seems we have one moderator that wants to move all our 3rd Gen stuff to that forum for some reason.

Do ANY of you 3rd Gen people get wanged out or want your posts moved to that area?

For myself, I think I should have to look no further than the 2 areas set aside for 3rd Gen trucks, and not have to dig it out of other forums.

After all, a generation is a generation! And, I am kinda proud of the 3rd!

Ok, 3rd Gens, chime in, lets ban the moving of our forums to forums that are mixed with the "older" generation!

Rise up and show we can have "ALL" our own 3rd gen stuff in 2 places, "3rd Gen, no Drivetrain" and "3rd Gen Engine and Drivetrain"

There is no reason for our 3rd Gen stuff to be moved to any other forum

Hunter

Re:Question for the Moderators

You betcha!

Having made the above comment, I do not mind some things being placed in the high performance aftermarket section either if in deed they are appropriate. :

Re:Question for the Moderators

The moderator that is moving these things to the High Performance Aftermarket thread is doing his job correctly.

There is nothing special about the 3rd generation trucks here, every generation has it's loyal supporters and rightfully so. Much of the new aftermarket stuff also incorporates properties that are helpful for the other generation vehicles as well.

Keeping this stuff in the appropriate forum makes it much easier for EVERYBODY to find, as this site is dedicated to ALL it's members not just owners of 3rd generation trucks.

If you want information on the new aftermarket parts, then you know right where you can find them. In the appropriate forum where they belong.

Re:Question for the Moderators

Hunter, this has been hashed over before. And there's a few reasons for it. I'll admit it bothers me sometimes too, but in the big picture, keeping in mind that the moderators tread a fine line in maintaining stability and applicability, and the fact that this site HAS the most civil forum(s) on the net that I frequent, I am not complaining.

The fact that there is a High Performance - Aftermarket section only exascerbates the issues sometimes. If the thread is germane to a particular genre' of truck, "Chris" thinks it should remain in that particular Generation Forum; but if a guy owns a 3rd gen and asks about (air filtration/flow characteristics in general), not specific to a generation of CTD's, or even a diesel, it should go in that HP section. But now you enter the fuzzy area of how someone else (moderators) interpret it. My instinct tells me they are doing the best they can, and as volunteers as well, that's good enough for me.

Hunter, this is a personal example and not directed at you, nor am I volunteering you to be a mod:
Ever watch a football game or baseball game and you think the referee's/umps are idiots sometimes, or blind? (I've NEVER thought some of those idiots were blind) Then one day you find yourself "volunteering" after BOTH coaches asked you repeatedly to be a ref/ump so the game can go on? Its amazing how quick some folks will tag you as a blind idiot. Oh well. I told them to mind their manners and if it was soooo important, THEY should have volunteered. No good deed goes unpunished.

Couple of ideas:
If the moderator in question doesn't have a 3rd gen, maybe a pm to him explaining your rationale would help.

Maybe the person who posts a question could include a "3rd" in the subject line if they would like it to remain germane to 3rd generation trucks. But thats up to the individual, and the moderator may or may not honor it.

If I've inadvertantly stepped up on a soap-box, I'll step down now.

Overall, I think Jack and the crew are doing a great job.

Re:Question for the Moderators

Hey Lary, WRT to Hunters initial comment, this post:

MOVED: Any 03' HO Cummins Converts From Superduties?

was directed at 3rd gen NEW truck buyers, not the used truck market for potential 2nd and first gens purchasers. Thats what Hunters' post is all about. This is a specific 3rd gen issue, NOT General Diesel.

To really think about and looking at the first two pages of 3rd Gen No drivetrain, you should move spare tire jack questions, fuel mileage, mirrors on the passenger side, cruise control, trailer brakes, etc (shall I stop now?) over to Gen Diesel.

Consistency.

Re:Question for the Moderators

Hey Chris,
It goes beyond just that one post, Hunter has sent some nasty PM messages to one of my moderators in the past. I am sorry he doesn't like how we do things here, but He is free to start his own site anytime he likes.

All of our moderators try to do the best job they can here, You don't see these complaints coming from the other sections, just from the 3rd gen section.

You can't please everybody but we do try to make it work for the majority of members here.

Lary

How can you call that a "nasty" message of any type whatsover? Just a suggestion that all 3rd gen stuff stay with 3rd gen, either non engine or engine.

Just like Chris just said, you might as well move everything to "other" or "aftermarket" or some other forum then as most posts could fit in another forum.

Apparently folks are not allowed to express their opinions on here then?

Hunter

Re:Question for the Moderators

I agree. Since most of us newbies are 3rd genners, and most of the aftermarket posts and high performance posts are for 2nd gen trucks, I think all 3rd gen stuff should stay on the 3rd gen pages. Or maybe make a 3rd gen accessoreis/high performance/other page. FWIW

Lary

How can you call that a "nasty" message of any type whatsover?

Hunter

Hunter I did not say that message was nasty in anyway, I said you have sent nasty messages to one of my moderators in the past.

We encourage all opinions here, as long as they are not of a personal nature. Like I said we can't please everyone, and the moderators do not have the ability to catch every single mistake that a member makes.

If you know it is improper then you help fix the problem by not posting in the wrong thread to begin with.

This stuff isn't rocket science, if it is a new aftermarket product and not something that comes on your stock vehicle then it belongs in the aftermarket thread.

Re:Question for the Moderators

Lary

I don't have the time or care to look at the first 50 posts in any forum. I log on, look at 3rd Gen and "used to feel assured" all the posts I needed are there.

I could care less to read about accessories for a '98, as people with a '98 would care less to read about accessories for an '03

Seems accessories for a '98 won't work for an '03 and vice versa, so, why in the world can't we have the '03 stuff in 2 places?

And Spots, as far as you, you are so full of BS I am surprised you have not burst yet

Hunter

Re:Question for the Moderators

The "air filter thread" said nothing about it being for just the 3rd gen trucks. It fit the guidlines of the high performance and accessories forum better.

End of story.
