Feel free to place your personal pictures in your free photo gallery but at this time DTR does not do personal avatars.

Why not? It's cool to be able to personalize things a bit. Is it too much of a pain, or what? Just curious.....

There's been many posts on this.

Hi guys. Actually, the avatar has nothing to do with the hardware this time. The biggest issue is that when people use huge avatars, we have no control over the page load times on the forums. In light of that, some dialup users may extremely slow page load times because some people with custom avatars keep them at like 100-200k . It was decided a long time ago not to allow custom avatars because of this. I'm actually seriously considering removing them altogether again because I get at least one email per week asking about this.

Fair enough, but avatars that are sized at a maximum of 100x100 should be fine...I'd think. Thanks!

Right, but not everyone does that, and even though the forum will resize it to fit, the FILEsize of the picture would remain the same. So in essence, you would be downloading a 100x100 pic that is 200k. Seen it time and time again.

Jack, new version of vBulletin handles that rather nicely. Just set the limit, and watch your users start getting the error message of "It's too bloody big!"
