Need Help Laptop will not Boot up.

Yesterday my laptop stopped working.

It is a hp dv2000 when I turn it on the lights come on but the screen will not come up it stays black.

I tryed to put a dvd in it to seeif it would run but it act like it is reading the disk then it just stops. The screen is still black like it is not even on.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it?

I also pulled the battery to see if that would do anything but still got nothing.

Does the laptop make any beeps when it boots up?

Have you tried hooking the laptop up to an external monitor, let the laptop boot up for a few minutes, then pressing the keys to switch from the laptop monitor over to the external monitor?

To switch monitors use the Fn key and at the same time press F4.
Also do you see the HP splash screen early in the bootup?

There is a reset on the bottom, may have to look around for it. At least on everyone of mine had it.

My dell does something similar from time to time except its coming out of sleep mode.

you should have a Fn key combination to switch between the LCD screen on the laptop and an external monitor. Try that. It may be getting confused about where its supposed to display.
