Dang Piston Lift Pump

I called my local Cummins dealer here in Ontario and faxed him over the part numbers for the piston lift pump.

Here the costs in American dollars

1 - Pump, Fuel Transfer P/N#3936320 - $153.23
2 - Gaskets, Cover Plate P/N#3639258 - $1.75ea
1 - Tube, Fuel Supply P/N#3914753 - $28.29
1 - Spacer, Mounting P/N# 3914284 - $10.40
2 - Washers, Sealing P/N# 3963983 - $1.00ea
Total cost $196.42

Heres the costs in Canadian dollars he gave me

1 - Pump, Fuel Transfer P/N#3936320 - $314.48
2 - Gaskets, Cover Plate P/N#3939258 - $3.65
1 - Tube, Fuel Supply P/N#3914753 - $61.22
1 - Spacer, Mounting P/N# 3914284 - $22.51
2 - Washers, Sealing P/N# 3963983 - $1.07
Total cost taxes in $468.80
Note the different part number for the cover plate. I gave him the original one at the top (us$) and he gave me the one on the bottom (cdn$).
When I said to him that its under half the cost in the States and asked if he could help me out with the price at all, He said he couldn't do any better and said I guess you'll be going over to Buffalo then Stupid JackA$$.

I think I might have to go another route. I want to upgrade because I believe mine is near dead but thats alot of money that could be put else where for bombs. Does anyone have any ideas for me on what other options I have for a lift pump? Maybe a good electric one with a regulator if I have to?

Find a way to buck up for the piston lift pump. Those POD's can be awful demanding @3000 rpm. Money well spent and the only way to fly, imo.

Don't go electric.. Thats just a problem from the get go..

I think I saw the 12V lift pump for the P7100 (is that the piston pump?) on the PDR site for less than $300 CAD..

Yeah, but if you get a pump for an inline you need to get a different pressure spring to keep from blowing out the VE pump. Probably gonna run about the same price either way.

I'm with Greg. Bite the bullet and get a good lift pump. You are not going to set up an electric pump that flows enough AND is reliable for less money. I know overvalved folks who carry a spare Holley pump because they burn out so often. Keep it mechanical and it'll stay running.

dammit I was afriad you guys would say that. Anyone have a clue what a rebuilt kit for the ve piston pump runs for? just thinking maybe i can get a good used one off a p-pump for cheap and rebuilt it

I just checked out piers site
PDR2116316 94-98 12V Second Gen Lift Pump $161.25 thats cdn.
Even if I picked that up and got the rebuilt kit for it, i think that would be cheaper.

Call your buddy at the local Cummins shop and ask him . The way I see it, you have two choices. One, get a stock diaphragm lift pump ~$50us. Two, do as the others say, spend a little more and get the piston lift pump~$196.

I just thought maybe someone knew what it might be worth so I wouldn't HAVE to call him. I wish i could get the lift pump for the $200 cuz that wouldn't be a problem for me but its the $450 that bothers me thats like half way to a turbo or 3/4 to a clutch.

Can you order from a Cummins shop in the States, then have them ship to you? What is $468 cdn dollars in US dollars? You don't want the 2nd gen piston LP. Too much pressure. You want the sexy 3936320 1st gen rotary pump LP.

problem solved due to the magic of the yellowpages I called a somewhat local diesel injection guy and he had the pump in stock but im not positive if its the right one. He said its an industrial one that they use on case tractors and such so im thinking this is it. Worst case senario since im putting a fuel pressure gauge in while I put the pump in il put a regulator if I have to. I got it for $80 cdn!!!! Once I heard that price on the phone I was all they also said they deal with a good shop for lines and fittings and stuff so i might just try and get some highflow banjo bolts and such from them if posible.

If its not Cummins part number 3936320, you're wasting your time and money. How many more members have to tell you that??? I hope you didn't just ask for a lift pump.. sure we have them for tractors in stock LOL.... You did ask him for that part number?? He did verify thats the number on the pump?

I give up. Let us know what you end up with and what fuel pressure you end up with.
