Which tranny in what truck?

OKay im new to the diesel world. Im currently in Iraq and have sold my truck (Tacoma) for bigger and better things. I have been looking into the 3rd gen trucks and was wondering what transmissions come in what. I am talking about manuals only. I see 5sp/6sp....nv5600/g56. What am im looking at when it comes time. Whats years/model come with what. I dont plan on towing heavy but im a manual guy. I also odnt plan on bombing it maybe a prgrammer and intake and exhuast to help on milage. Thanks alot. I read as much as i can on here and have been lurking for a few months taking in yalls vast diesel knowledge.

The 5sp came in the Standard Output models in 03/04. The 6sp is in the High Outputs from 03-current. The Nv5600 was the 6sp used from 03-05 and then sometime in 05 they switched to the G56 6sp which they are still using.

Well i was looking at 03-05 models maybe even a 2006. So whats the deal with the nv5600. I dont want a tranny im gonna worry about. I dont plan on bombing just maybe a ,smarty but i wont race/tow anything heavy. Most ill tow is probably 7k. Thats max as the only thing i would tow would be my trail rig (85 yota). Will i worry about the nv5600 with mild mods? I see it cost an arm and a leg to replace if you break it.
