Adamkn,
You have to cut a wire leading to the ecm, in order to do the install. If your concerned about the warranty I wouldn't do it. But I suppose it would depend on the dealer, and what broke. I would say, its a nice option to have if your towing. I'd do it again.

I'd tell the dealer if my truck had come with it, like it should have, I would not have had to go the aftermarket route. I don't care; I would do it again in a heartbeat. My truck drives and accelerates sooooo much better. I love it.

I haven't installed it yet, but I ordered mine today, and the manual is available for download on their website. It looks like a pretty straightforward install if you're comfortable cutting and tapping into wires.

Hey racerdude, last time I checked the website, I couldn't find the this module? Would you please provide a link?

And to tacook - I talked to One Tonne, and he said there are 2 wires to splice into that run to the ECM, one wire for power (to fuse box), and another to ground. The module box is like 2"x3", and then there's also a LED indicator light that you can run to whatever location you want.

Thanks for the info............ interesting to see how this works out. My only complaint is the 05 not having this feature like the 06 has. Cant believe Dodge doesn't make a software change to make it like the 06.

Here's the link (if it works right)......was in the middle of posting earlier and the power went out, a power pole in the alley where I work caught on fire, so that was the excitement for the afternoon.

Installed and working...

Got the OD Lockout installed today. Works as advertised.....here's what I found on a short unloaded test drive.

If you double-click the button when NOT in T/H mode, it doesn't do anything - in other words, does not come "on", indicator light does not light. So, you have to be in T/H mode to activate it. Once activated (BD indicator light on) factory T/H works as normal, including lockup in 3rd, it just never shifts into OD - very nice. If you have it activated, and take it out of T/H mode by single-clicking the button, it will exit factory T/H mode and stay in 3rd gear with the BD controller activated, but the tranny is not locked up. At least that's what I think was happening. I don't know why you would ever want an unlocked 3rd gear mode though. Double-clicking the button while in T/H mode with the BD controller activated turns the BD unit back off and allows a normal shift into O/D, although not as quickly as I would prefer, it takes a few seconds. Anyway, looking forward to towing with it, should be much improved climbing the curvy hills around here, and will also be useful to hold it in 3rd gear while descending the hills.

Also, the kit introduced me to the Posi-Lock wiring connectors. I am very impressed and will definitely be looking for some to add to my electricial toolbox. Very secure connections without soldering or using those flaky blue crimp connectors.

RD,
Mine will activate when not in TH mode. You just have to not be in OD at the time.

I do not have to be in TH either to activate OD lock-out. Just double tap the TH button quicker and it will work.

I got ahold of the instructions for the install. It looks like the module taps into the T/H button signal to know when to activate the OD lockout. The module also cuts into the 3-4 shift solenoid to block the signal to shift from 3rd to 4th. But there doesn't seem to be anything that manipulates the electronically controlled throttle pressure. Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that the ECM & valve body will continue to manipulate the throttle pressure as if it's shifting into OD, even though it's not actually shifting. I have to guess that this would result in damage (or excessive wear) on the friction elements on the clutches.

Anyone have any thoughts on that? I really want a way to lock-out my overdrive, but I'm afraid this module might cause some damage down the road. I feel like the only safe way to go is some type of software program that manipulates all the necessary variables, as opposed to essentially cutting a wire and installing a switch.

adamkn,
Its my understanding that the od shift is electronically activated and mechanically applied. So the valve body is not getting the signal to shift.

TimK, thanks for the info. If that's the case, then there's probably not much else to worry about. Do you know of any place that I could refer to for more info on that? Maybe the service manual has some info..

The factory service manual does have a ton of info, but it will give you a headache reading it. This is what my transmission guy told me.
