Question No Brake/Shift Lockout?

Shortly after I got my truck about a year ago I discovered that as long as the ignition is in the run position, I can shift from park (auto) without pressing the brake. I thought there was law passed a while back that made this mandatory?

Is mine just not working?

To be honest, I like it. Seems like it would be less stress on the drivetrain as well since when you shift from park to reverse or drive the truck starts rolling rather than the drivetrain getting beat with the torque and not moving.

Mine does it too, I thought it was broken since I thought it was not supposed to work that way.

I don't think trucks have the same "rules" as passenger cars.

Sister has a 2002 Durango, and you have to brake to shift.

My truck you don't.

Neighbor accross the street got stuck in the middle of the street a couple weeks ago.
Borrowed her sons Jeep somethingorother and couldn't get it out of park.
Knocked on my door for assistance.

Turned out she wasn't used to having to push the brake to shift, as her car is much older.

It's a great safety device, but I like that mine doesn't have it.

Speaking from exp. do not leave your dog (or a kid) in the front seat while your out getting the mail from the box. Mine lab knows how to shift. I wonder how she would do w/ a 3 speed on the tree? Lucky I left the door open, it only went about 25 feet before I caught up to it.
