OD Lockout from BD Power

How many have installed the new OD Lockout kit from BD Power for the pre-06 48re trucks. Pretty close to buying one but would like more real-world usage feedback. I tried doing the shifter-in-2nd thing, that sorta worked but too much throttle and it decides to downshift and rev to the high 3000's. Not good....

I'm only pulling 6400 lbs. of travel trailer, so on grades I don't need much throttle but would like to keep it out of 4th.

Thanks for the info!

PM One Tonne, he bought one a month or so ago and has been using it since. Seems to like it.

Have one on my '03 drw. Works great with the BD remote exhaust brake pulling a 38' 5'er.

You will like this feature when pulling your trailer in the hills. I use this feature alot on my '06 and it works real good. Saves all the aggrivation of the constant downshifting.

I had my BD overdrive lockout installed tonight. All I can say is, awesome. This is how the truck should have come originally. Having OD locked out around town is great. No more lugging, no more egt’s going through the roof on a hill in 4th gear. Best money I’ve spent yet.

Is 05 the only year that you can't lock out OD on? (3rd Gens) All tow/haul does on mine is lock it out.

Do you mind telling how much you were charged to do the installation? The local stereo shop wants $180. Seemed a little high to me.

I just got mine in the mail today, plan on installing it this weekend. A question for you guys who have installed the led. Is it too bright at night to mount up high on the dash, or a-pillar?
Thanks

I paid $110 for the install and the LED is pretty bright at night. Much brighter than I thought it would be. I would mount it out of your line of sight. Mine is mounted down by the cigarette lighter and the glow is still pretty strong.

Questions:

1. How do you activate it?
2. Are you able to lockout OD in the tow/haul mode only or both?
3. Can you shut it off so tow/haul will go into OD like from the factory when prefered?
4. Does it affect warranties?
5. Ease of install?

Thanks,

Sticky

1. How do you activate it? Via, the factory tow/haul button. Double tap and OD is locked out and tow/haul is off.

2. Are you able to lockout OD in the tow/haul mode only or both? Both
3. Can you shut it off so tow/haul will go into OD like from the factory when preferred? Yes, if I understand your question.

4. Does it affect warranties? Who knows, probably?
5. Ease of install? My diesel guy said it was easy.

Just finished up with my install. This thing drives like a new truck. Took a little bit to get the dbl click thing down, but overall its trick.

Thanks for the advice Sid, you were right. I did put the led down low, on top of my brake controller, didn't even have to drill.

Regarding the warranty, I checked with a guy at BD, and he claimed that it would not be traceable by the dealer. This, of course, is assuming you remove all the components prior to bringing it into the dealer for warranty service.

My question would be - how practical would it be to remove everything? A huge pain, or not too bad?

I can see that there would be some potential of this kit screwing up the transmission control module, so I would not be surprised if a dealer wanted to void your warranty for having this installed.
