Wanna put in a fp gauge...local shop wants $337. for the parts. Can I do the whole thing myself for less than $100.? Geno's had a kit @ 70 but then mentioned something about my model yr and having to be creative???...I'm not...barely understand the lingo(bango...does it come with a pick) after reading the various posts on this subject.

If I can do it for under $100. what do I need to buy...once I can see the parts I'm sure I could put it together. This is a great site and I would buy here but didn't see anything in my price range...did I miss it. Thanks for your help in advance

You want the tapped banjo to mount the fuel pressure sender to.
You also might consider buying the complete banjo set to help out fuel flow.

Thats all the stuff you'll need.
Its a pretty simple job.

I did the FP gauges in both my trucks for less than $25 each.
Mechanical water pressure gauge is the money saver, under $10.
No lighting and doesn't match other automotive gauges but I don't feel it's a gauge you need to look at much, mounted down at the bottom of the dash with no lights works fine for me.

 

The Geno's kit will work fine. Call Andy @ Geno's and he'll tell you exactly what you need to go with the kit. You should easily do it for under $100.

 

Thanks infidel...with the gauge being the most costly item IMHO I figured someone is getting hosed at 337+. But I would like it to be lighted and look good too.

Pourin thanks for the links....that is the gauge I was lookin at. I assume you have installed this unit? What about the lines what are you using? I saw another post that talks about tapping into the ashtray light for back lighting. Any issues, words of wisdom you can think of are appreciated

You can use a fuse tap and plug the light directly into the "illumination" fuse on the panel, that gives you the dimmer function too.
Geno's provides a face plate for the gauge, which installs over the dash cubby to the right of the stereo (that hole you keep your cell phone in ). I believe there is no cost for the face plate, as long as you buy the gauge from them. They also sell the tapped banjo for installing the gauge at the VP or they sell a billet fuel filter housing cap, which has a port you can tap into.
You can pick up fittings from your local autoparts store to connect the isolator to the fuel source or you can purchase the "grease gun" hose from Geno's.
I installed Westach gauges in my truck (including this FP) if you need to see some pics for installation purposes/ideas.

 

I've got the Westach FP gauge in my truck. The "creative" part is mostly about where and how you mount the sending unit, because there aren't too many good places to do it without bending the tubing a lot. It's also about if you want to plug the tube from the sending unit into the Schrader valve on the injection pump, and what sort of tubing you'd use.

In my case, I used the Schrader valve, and an air brake hose. I mounted the sending unit by wrapping it in a rubber isolater and clamping it to the air horn above the Schrader valve. Its worked fine for 30K miles.

$337 is maybe an electrical fuel pressure gauge. I have one, it was more like $225 or so though, from AutoMeter (UltraLite). A mechanical gauge should run around $50 from AutoMeter.

Mopar1973man...thats a great start. What did the rest of the system cost? I have been leaning toward the setup Pourin Diesel has posted above (Geno's) because of the kits that go with the gauge which I hope address the question as to where to tap into the system,sender mounting and reliable lines. It looks to me that system would cost @ $109. calculated as follows: 70.00 Guage and various parts (I didn't see any lines) 15.95 Pod
33.75 Bf Kit 4/1 (addresses sender mounting? do I need all those bolts?) T 109.70 +tax?+s/h ? If anyone has installed a similar system would appreciate your evaluation of my conclusions or suggestions for a better setup @ under $100. Buying the gauge is the easy part I need help with the rest of it. Thanks in advance.

I have one myself, and I have put a few in customer trucks. They really like the look.

I mounted them on the steering column.

Far from $300, customer service is excellent also.

 

The total bill for gauges and pod was $309.00
