wich fuel plate?
wich fuel plate?
I am going to buy a 98 12v. It has a #5 fuel plate and 370 injectors. It still has the stock dv's and no timming increase. It dosent have the surge problems. so I am not sure if i should mess with a good thing. thinking about different DV's and a timming increase and maybe a #100 plate. I dont see many people running the #5.IT also has a stock turbo with the waste gate blocked off. Would appereciate all your guys 2 cents. kind of new at this.

with 370s and stock DV's im pretty certain that you are well overfueled.. Surge problems? your best bet for those are broken, missing, or loose throttle springs, or a GSK that is too tight... With a stock turbo, a 100 plate and larger DV's you will be overfueled, I had 191s in my ride, i went back to stockers due to smoke levels and high egts. Of coarse your right foot is your best egt control tho. A stock turbo, even with a gate blocked off is gonna somewhat not be efficient for your setup, im running a 14 cm exhaust housing, and well, im not to sure but i think its a little better than a 12 cm, ive only had a 14 cm, no basis for comparison really...
Does this truck have gauges? if not, then before u do anything else, get those in there..

Rick
thanks so do you think i should keep it the way it is. as far as the #5 plate and stock dv's. It has gauges. and no surge problems. how do you get bigger exhaust housing is this an easy upgrade?
You really ought to consider getting a bigger turbo, if you want any more power. The only soulution to being over fueled is to add more air. A larger exhuast housing (http://www.piersdiesel.com/DodgeUSPrice.htm) Would help keep EGTs in check but not nearly as much as a turbo.
Do you tow? That can make a difference as well, as it generates more heat.

If the truck has gauges go ahead and get them in there ASAP. If i were you i'd just leave it like it is and bump the timing up to about 17*. This will cool ya down some and make it run better too. Sure it will get hot sometimes, but just keep an eye on your gauges and if its gettin a lil toasty on a hard pull, just let out of it. Right now im runnin 191 DVs, a 0plate, and 370s with a stock turbo. The other day i pulled a tractor with it (about 11,000#s with the tractor and trailer). It pulled it just fine, and my temps could easily be controlled if i just stayed out of the throttle a little. Dont get me wrong, i can bury the pyro
but just keep an eye on the gauges and youll be fine.
