whos tranny upgrades
Re:whos tranny upgrades
Anybody have any experience with Sun Coast Pro lock converters and trannys? They claim theirs is unbreakable at any power and also Guaranteed 36 months unlimited horsepower! They have a Master tranny kit for rebuilders as well.
Curious because my Brother in law just set his shop up to rebuild tranny's I like doing my own work great feeling when you know every inch of what you are depending on.

It appears that there price is comparable to the other guys even on the kits if you factor in Labor cost.
Interesting idea, How feasible I do not know yet.

Jack,

I did not realize that you were not aware of Bill's background but here it is. He has been a transmission builder for 20 + years and as he is the driving force behind DTT i guess those are his qualifications.

There is a brief Bio on the our story portion of his website.

Stefan Kondolay
DTT

Re:whos tranny upgrades
LONG STORY
After talking to (what I call) the 3 major players of tranny upgrades quite a few times over the phone, here is why I went with one over the other.
Like I said, I had talked to the Owner's of all 3 companies quite a few times and during one of my calls I had asked to speak to the owner of this company and I asked why one their guys was saying that all I had to do was rebuild back to stock and put their VB & TC in. He said that it was not true that it would be best to update clutch packs etc. I asked why they were stating in other "arenas" that all you need to do was just put back to stock and I never got a clear response. He asked what I had and I said a '96. He said o' yea you have a hydraulic tranny and you should do quite a few internal mods. Well, this was the first I had heard of having this (hydraulic) model.
I asked are you sure, he said o 'yea. I then asked how can I be sure, he said you can't unless you take apart. Man, was I bummed. Now I need to do "extra" stuff/money that I was not counting on. Well I call up and ask to speak to the owner once again of another tranny shop and I then play dumb (not wanting to get into he said/she said stuff) and I tell him a friend had mentioned that I had a hydraulic system and blah, blah , blah. He said no way. I say what? Is there a way to tell, he says sure there is a plug way back on the top of tranny and there should be (I think it was) 8 wires coming out Electronic and if there is 3 then it is Hydraulic. I get off the phone and check and Yipee!!!
That right there made up my mind.
Why would one guy know to check that and the other swear I had a hydraulic model and I would have to take apart to tell.
Just my .02!!!!
P.S. I did call the 3rd tranny shop and asked straight out what tranny I had and he said an Electronic model.
Re:whos tranny upgrades
yes, the 96s and up have the 47re (47rElectronic)--not the 47rh. i've done extensive research and i'm 100% certain that i will go with DTT in the future. you need to understand how tranmissions work to really know what's good and what's bad. now, i am by no means an expert, but Bill K made an interesting note on his forum that made up my mind. i'm not going to state it on a thread (you can PM me if you'd like)-- we don't need any wars. all in all though, you will be happy with most of the popular brands that are our there- BD, DTT, ATS, Goerand, etc.
