Who has had vp44 failure w/edge comp or drag comp?
Who has had vp44 failure w/edge comp or drag comp?
i would like to know who has had vp44 failure or problems while running edge comp/drag?
i dying to buy one of the used drag comps in the classifieds, but im worried about electrical or vp44 troubles, since im always reading about problems with the comps.
thanks any info is appericated, brian

drag comp lasted on my truck for less than a month before it took out the electronics. the truck would run fine with the drag comp off, but turn it on and the extra strain made the truck stutter and run like crap.
it wasn't the comp either, i had that checked. it was the VP44. i ended up with a HRVP44 and a more aggressive box and it runs like a champ now.

If your pump is going bad the Comp will finish it off. If your pump lasts thru the 1st couple 5x5 runs it should be good.
1 1999 with 100k added Comp and still running good with 250k
2 1999 with 85k added Comp and pump locked up 1st 5x5 run. Replaced with SHOVP44 and running perfect at 125k. This truck also had bad lift pump when I bought, no telling how long it had no fuel pressure.
Comp doesn't harm the electronics any way, it is electronic!! Luck of the draw!
Orignal vp pump 220.000 with a Fass pump with drag comp on 3x3, made it about 300 yards.
on HRVP on 2x3 made it 1.5 miles, don't know if the pump had bad electronics in it from the start but they were fried, and mechanial problems, sent the box in and edge replaced it(never found out why). haven't tapped this pump yet.

WRONGO!!! Both my pumps went out with a FASS system and I know of dozens more, so you better not be betting your hard earned money on that myth.
A wire tap box will not make a good pump go bad and not installing a wire tap box won't stop a bad pump from going south.....it is all a myth. The rate of VP44 failures is not proportional in any way to the rate of wire tap box installs. The classic symptom that perpetuated this myth was that the installation of a wire tap was followed by the failure of the VP. The problem was that the VP was weak in the first place and early production units had some manufacturing tolerance issues that were causing rotor failures. Many rebuilt units never addressed the original issues and in many cases, failures persisted. The thing is, the pumps weren't in great shape in the first place....the box simply sped up the inevitable.
I do agree with Ratsun on the LP pressure issue....it is the same scenario as the wire tap box - good fuel pressure won't stop a bad pump from failing. Good fuel pressure is but one component that affects to longevity of the VP44 and will not stop a failure.

10K with my Hot Juice (for what your question is, it's the same box) and no problems. Stock pump at 133K, lots and lots...and lots of 6x6 blasts down the track and down the road.
I think good fuel pressure is one of the keys to keeping a good pump from getting hurt.

and no probs yet (knock on wood)
