Where's the Smoke?

I have been working on the rig but I'm having some promblems. I have put an #10 plate in it, slid the plate and the AFC housing foward and turned the wheel up. But when I go up the road and get on it, it smokes a very little. When It's not moving and just sitting and I get on it, it will smoke a little bit. But nothing like I was thinking. What am I missing on this thing? ??? ??? ???

Re:Where's the Smoke?

Well thats next on the list of things to be done, But when I bought the camplate kit, the guy said that I should whatch because I would slip the clutch, shoot It barely has enough power to get up to high way speed going up an slight grade. But I was thinking that it would smoke a little at WOT pulling a hill.Maybe I was thinking wrong. [undecided] Thanks,MOSTWANTED.

P.S. Could the lift pump have anything to do with this weakness promblem?

Re:Where's the Smoke?

Do you have boost? I don't think that what you describe is normal. Either you don't have the fuel you need (after the plate and AFC it's getting into repairing stuff) or you may have slipped your timing. Because you smoke at idle as you say... not good with stock injectors.

Just 2c

AlpineRAM

Re:Where's the Smoke?

This might be a dumb question but can any body point me to a step by step intrustions on how to set the timing? I have tryed DodgeDiesel.org, but the site is down. Thanks for the help! I did a search and found some people had the same kinda promblems before they adj. their timing. So I feel a little better. Thanks again!

Re:Where's the Smoke?

Have you tried Piers Governor Lever Adjustment? Could be your problem.....also do you have a boost guage someone already suggested your not getting enough boost. You might want to check into these two things.

Also if you want smoke take the rack stop out of the AFC housing. That'll be plenty of smoke! ;D

To do that take the AFC housing off.. take the bolt facing the front of the truck off/out... push on the "boot looking thing" (dodgeman01's terminology : ) and the rod running through it should pop out.... just pull that rod out...rack stop (boot thing) should just drop out...reinstall rod....reinstall bolt...your done!

That will throw maximum fuel in at low boost making plenty of smoke! Also make sure to put your rackstop in a secure place if you ever need to reinstall.
