This may be a bad idea but i just put a bolt in the end of the hose connecting to the wastegate and put a hose clamp around it. just a thought. Has held 40 psi boost so far......

The HY35 has a hard line to the wastegate, not like the HX35 which is silicone. The J hook is a spring tensioner for that wastegate lever. It makes it harder for the wastegate to open allowing it to build some more boost. The boost elbow just bleeds off the pressure going to the wastegate allowing it to build more boost that way.

So then HY35 = J hook application and HX35 = Boost elbow application ...

or can you interchange? I want to know which one I need to buy

You are correct, you do need the Jhook as the boost elbow wont work.

if you don't have anything done to your truck (boost fooler wise). putting a j hook or a boost elbow on it will make it throw an overboost code and the truck will derate the power...

ahh ok...so then I guess I should wait until after I get a smarty or XZT+ or something before I get the J hook, is that correct?

you cant up the boost untill you get a box/program with a "boost fooler". most boxes have them, i dont know if the tuners (like the smarty) do. im almost gonna say they dont.

I would just make your own like I did it cost me $11 and its way easier to adjust than the one you could buy.
