When to replace the stock flexplate with aftermarket
When to replace the stock flexplate with aftermarket
Well I just heard a guy locally tore the center out of the flexplate on this 2005. He just put a triple disk and valve body in not long ago. I normally hear this problem with 3rd Gens, but when should a 2nd Gen 12 valve think about an aftermarket flexplate? Obviously with an aftermarket converter and valve body, right? Is a billet input shaft of more concern than the flexplate on a 12 valve 47re truck? Gears in my head are turnin'

If the budget allows it wouldnt hurt. But i wouldnt worry about it till around 5-6 hundred area, unless your gonna be doin boosted launches everywhere. I would do the input shaft first, because its a weaker point in the 2nd gens and its alot easyier to do the flex plate swap than an input. They have more problems with the third gens than the 2nd. I have only heard of a few 2nd gen breakinging them.
I would go for a billet imput before a flex plate the tight fluid coupling in built converters is hard on the input, But if you can afford it do both. The CR flexplate are weak.
What I am gathering from alot of guys is that the common rails have this issue much more than the 2nd Gens. So I'll put money towards a billet input first. It seems in the near future I may have this better fluid coupling that I've been looking for.
