Wheel / Tire question

Happy New Year Everybody

I just saw that Weld Racing F1 Cheyenne 8 wheel and I gotta get one. I was thinking a 17X10 with BFG 37 X 12.5 R17 Ds or
315 / 70 R17s Would preffer the 37 thou. Will this combo fit on my 02 (old body style) 2500 LWB. The truck is stock, it has the heawy duty tow / plow package. If not how much modification will it need to fit it in? All help is much appreciated, thanks.

Peter

Nice choice on the wheels! I had to flip a coin between them and the Dakars. The Dakars won.

I personally got sold on the SSR radials after visiting 4 Wheel Parts in Indy and looking at the differences. Also note that you can get them up to 10 ply, which is what I am running.

I run 4.5" of suspension lift (no body lift) and the 35" x 12.5" tires fit just fine. I do get a little rub on the passenger side nerf bar in a hard right hand turn.

If you are going to 37" tires, you will most likely need 6" or more of suspension lift and some body lift. I really like my Skyjacker lift, and have enough miles on it to like it that much more. Also, if you do a suspension lift, have a reputable company perform the install. There are a lot of bad stories out there around great parts being installed less than properly and then the nightmare experiences that follow.

That will be one tall truck!

I also just noticed you live in New Jersey. You might do yourself a favor if you haven't already, and check the local laws around bumper heights. Also, check neighboring states up that way. I know there are a few where Smokey Bear is going to have a fit with a big ol' lifted truck sitting on 37" tires.....

the biggest worry in jersey is the stability test, Drive up ramp....truck doesn't roll over....truck passes....at least thats what I've been told on numerous occasions..my inspections not due till '05 and by then Ill have airbags and drive over that ramp with the truck sitting dead level the whole time
I believe the only laws are regarding frame height from ground and they are
<4500 lbs - under, GVWR=7" above stock.
4501-7500 lbs GVWR=9" above stock.
7501 - 10,000 lbs GVWR=11" above stock

and most of the other laws for NJ are listed HERE These are the most up to date I could find without delving through the NJ.gov website

I 2nd what Gsdog said.

Basically the same setup, and I have a rub on the passenger side on a compressed hard right turn.
(like into a steep driveway or over a big rock)

I could fit 37's in front if I had slightly longer control arms, like maybe 1/2-inch to 1-inch longer.
The rear could fit them easily.

Don't you just live the price of Weld Wheels.

I went with the 16X10 Stonecrusher myself.

I just got done installing 17x9 Eagles and 315/75/17's on my '01
I had to get a Revtek leveling kit fot he front to keep them from rubbing on turns. As it is now they will only make minor contact if you jar the suspension during a sharp turn, completly liveable IMO. Plus it looks killer with the 17's on it.

Now that is cool, I do like it a lot. I am talking to T-Rex Engineering about their suspension, that would lift the front about 2'', but maybe they can dvise me how to fit the 37 in there.
Worse case I will go with 315s also, and that is not bad at all.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Peter

PS But the soffa's got to go, the color clashing is horrible!!! )

Yup, picked my truck up on Friday, and already helping someone move on Saturday.

Nice to get that first scratch out of the way quick.

Only reason I didn't get 17's was the selection of tires wasn't good at all.
Now, with the new trucks coming with 17's stock, the selection is getting much better.

You will be able to fit the 315's with the right backspacing, but you WILL need a leveling kit (2" in the front). For the 37's you will need 4.5-5.5" of lift AT LEAST. I have 7.5" and just barely clear 38x15.50x16.5's. The wife's has 36x14.50x16.5's and a 4.5" lift and has a little rub. Go with Skyjacker.
P.S. I dig those wheels, Weld Wheels are the only way to go!
