Tire and Wheel question
Tire and Wheel question
Got a question about tire & wheel combo. Not very intelligent on the subject so bear with me. Got a new 2003 2500 4x4 truck and I want to replace the stock wheels. My first question is what are the dimensions? I know the rims are 17", but what is the depth? Second, how does my tire effect my new rims? If the depth of the stock wheel is 8" can I put a 17" x 9" wheel on and the tire still fit correctly? I really like the look of the Helo Maxx so I am trying to get this wheel and the tire to fit together. I did upgrade the tire to the LT265/70R17E OWL on/off road when I ordered so would really like to use them. Thanks
Re:Tire and Wheel question
You can call 4wheelparts and they will tell you everything from stock tires to biggest size w/o lift. And they can recommend which rims and tires look good together. Also you have to watch the rim offset. Here is the number if you want it.1800-284-9840. Sorry if it didnt help.
SD03
Re:Tire and Wheel question
not to sure about 03's, but on previous years backspacing has been a big issue. Most manufacturers don't make their custom wheels with the same backspacing as stock wheels (I think my stock 02 wheels are 5"
What this means is if you replace a stock 16 x 8 wheel with 5" backspacing with a 16 x 9 with lets say 3.5" backspacing, the after market would stick out 2.5 inches further than stock even though the wheel is only 1" wider. On the positive side you can check your tread depth with your rear view mirrors
I went though this at length (I also looked at the Helo Maax's) and ended up getting a set of Boyd Coddingtons with the proper backspacing. A lot of the higher end (typically billet) manufacturers will make the backspacing to your specs, but you are generally in the 4-500 per wheel range.
good luck
Tim
