What's the next step????

Hello again, I have a couple of questions regarding the next steps in getting more out of My CTD. Air Box: I've seen different conversations on Scotty Mega cannon & AFE What's the better of the two. I currently have a K&N with stock box. I'm looking at 4" exhaust also what's the best system??? I want the best as I will not comprise quality for price. I've already gauged my unit with Isspro. I've also added a Oilguard Bypass System. I'm interested in a FASS system but don't know enough about it. You comments would be greatly appreciated.

Where do you want to end up horsepower and torque wise? Also, what will you be doing with the truck, and how will you be doing it?

I am kinda in the same boat, and from what I have gathered after answering the above questions is to get the wallet out!

Hey Matt, Yeah, I know about the wallet thing. I spent a few bucks already but I know there's other things to do for better performance and fuel economy. I'm looking for those area's to improve. I'm not trying to make a 1/4 mile drag racer out of it. I just know that OEM can do alot better in making these into better performers. And it's up to guys like us to make them the way we want them. I noticed you have a 4" exhaust ss system on yours did you notice a difference???? What about air box????

Rey:

I honeslty think that the 4" turbo to tail gave me better throttle response and some better egt's to boot. Also, according to the calculator I got back what I lost going with the 35" tires in terms of mpg's I can say the same about going with the BHAF.

I can offer no other data other than that at this point.

My next steps include an upgraded fuel line system and clutch.

I will absolutely say this - going 4 inch exhaust, BHAF, and no silencer ring makes my truck sound GREAT!

Hey Matt, Another silly question. BHAF ??? remember I'm kinda new to this. Is this an air box filtration system??? I also found a company that makes a system to rid the steering wander on the newer trucks and its very affordable. Canadian co. I'm gonna check them out. I really appreciate your help. I'll have to post some pics of my rig in the near future. Regards Rey

Believe it or not (and I laughed MAO when I found out!)

BHAF = Big Honking Air Filter. Mine is a Fleetguard, but several others carry a similar part. I don't have the part numbers handy though, sorry...

You will find a rather large amount of info on this board about aftermarket air stuff, trust me.

Reason I went with this BHAF is that I plan to upgrade my turbo later and that sometimes requires new air plumbing and a different filter. Based upon my research, I found it to be a very cost effective and safe option.

Also, after reading your post again, I went with a Banks SS exhaust with a muffler delete option. BTW - that's the only Banks product you will see on my vehicle. I will let you draw your own conclusions on why that's the case!

Last but not least, get ready for some tranny work. Regardless of how much or how big you want to go, you will outlive the tranny. I figure that sooner or later I will / would need a clutch and that gives me an excuse to upgrade it. Also, that helps me safely and effectively support other power upgrades.

Did I say this BOMB bug is contagious....

Ain't this fun Rey! I still laugh when I think about the BHAF acronym, not to mention telling it to others!

Welcome to the world of diesel upgrades!! Keep us posted.

Ultimate fueler

Performance is about how much fuel you can dump down its throat get a drag comp chip and some bullydog stage 8 injectors followed by a b1 or twins.

Hey Captain, as I mentioned in my other threads I don't want to make a 1/4 MILE DRAG RACER OUT OF IT !!!!! . I just want some gains in HP and bettere fuel effiency.

Rey -

I have to agree about the Scotty. If it weren't for my plans to upgrade my turbo and so forth, the Scotty would be on my truck.

Thanks Guys, I will call Wildcat for pricing. I'm headed to Houston on a job so I'll check into it when I get back.
Cheers, Rey
