Question What size tires to buy ??

I'm in the market for some new tires and can't decide on what size to buy. My truck currently has 265/75-16s and 3.54 gears.

I know I want to go larger. Can't decide between 285/75s, 305/70s or 315/75s.

What do you folks recommend ??

If you do alot of hiway driving

id say go with 315's it will lower your rpms and decrease your speed by a few mph. However, i have 285's on 3.54 rears, I dont like their take off, I was used to 4.10 gears from my previous truck. 305s are nice too, IMHO if you are gonna do lots of highway driving go with the largest one, if you are going to simply tinker around town, its gonna take more power to turn those larger tires and will hit you on fuel. I have found 285's perfect for my useage, so it is what id reccomend, not too tall, not too short, and no rubbing..

315's and 305s might have stock suspension rubbing, you might need to trim the edges on the front to get them to clear, I think you will at least need a leveling kit to run 315's.

I agree. That is what i'll buy next. I like the big look of the 315's but I hear they rub without a leveling kit. Don't want a leveling kit cause I like how they sit stock. But 285's just don't look big enough. 295's would be the happy medium.

4wheelparts lists BFG's in 315/75R16 at $164 a tire...very competitive pricing to the nitto terrgrappler, and some other nice 315 tires out there

yep 295s would be my choice aswell. taller than the 305 and just a tad narrower than the 315 to avoid rubbing on a stock rig

I already have the 285's and am looking to go to a more narrow tire. I like the height but not all the rock and crap that they throw on the sides on dirt roads/ because they stick out so far.

305s and 315s will not fit on the stock 6.5" steel rim.

Maybe we should trade tires!

I have Firestone Steeltex 265/75-16s. (2) have only 1000 miles on them and the other (2) are around 50%.

Either way, they'll be For Sale SOON!
