What should i do?? Advice please.....
I plan on pulling my truck as often as possible. Id like to go ahead and upgrade to a SPS62 or SPS64, but that will knock me out of the stock turbo class, and without doing some major engine mods, i would be wasting my time. I know that to be competitive in the stock turbo class, (mainly the duramaxes since their stock turbos are capable of supporting considerably more power), my stock hx35 just aint gonna cut it. So ive been considering sending my turbo off and getting HTT to beef it up and make it into a hybrid. Would it be worth my time/money to go this route? Or should i just forget it and go ahead and upgrade to a whole different charger? How much HP are the hybrid 35s able to support?
well what i would do is look at the rules and see how big u can go with a charger. u get some good power out of a stock but bigger would be better in a stock class and if ur looking for a bigger charger schied diesel make some killer turbo`s and they can make your truck scream.
Well my problem is that rules for the "stock turbo" class vary from pull to pull. Some pulls say stock turbo, others say 2.4 max inducer. If every pull was 2.4 inducer i would go ahead and just get a bigger charger, but a lot of pulls, the Scheid WorkStock class for example, only allow you to run the stock charger, or "stock appearing". Any body else?
Josh, I say go ahead, and do a 62/14. Ought to not be too bad about spoolup, and it will keep you from melting it down. Most classes seem to run the 2.4 rule now, so you can just leave the stock turbo pulling to me
, and you can run 2.4 . And I know someone who can install it for pretty cheap, along with a 4 inch downpipe, and a bull hauler

Don't know sqat about the turbo rules in pulling events.
If the rules allow modifications, the main problem you'll have in making big power with a HX35 is reliability. It can be modified to put out a decent amount of power, but the shaft is too small and will snap easy, especially if it is barked or over spooled.
A stock looking, heavily internally modified, HX35 looks like a good project and product for an enterprising turbo company. Put the same amount of engineering, work and machining into the HX35 as, say, goes into the Silver Bullet, and who knows what you might come up with.
