wastegates...

i have a banks big head waste gate on my 02, if i take the rubber hose that goes from the outlet to the wastegate...and disconnect it, then plug it with a screw and clamp it... will that prevent the wastegate from opening and stopping the truck from building boost?

i have a boost issue where my boost is dying off in 4 and 5th gear at WOT...but when i shift to 6th and hold it...the boost does not drop. i am talking a major drop here too, its dying from 35 down to only 25 psi on WOT runs. im not sure if its a fueling issue or a wastegate issue or what. the lack of power and boost is killing me tho

When the wastegate opens it bypasses exhaust around the turbine and slows the turbo down. A closed wastegate allows for full exhaust flow to enter the turbine. By plugging the line you prevent the wastegate from opening which eliminates any governing of peak boost other than fueling. With the loss in boost, do you experience any more black smoke than normal? Perhaps a lazy wastegate that isn't closing all the way? If there is a lack of black smoke, it could be a fueling issue.

it happens at the top of 4th and 5th...boost peaks at 35 then dies off as low as 25...i thoguht the clutch was slipping but the truck keeps accelerating just not as hard. and no there is no black smoke...but my truck will clear up the smoke i am making by 29-30 psi...and i hadnt noticed if it came back when the boost dropped. ill check later on.

its only at WOT in 4th and 5th gears...go into 6th gear and it will hold 35-36 psi and pull hard again

someone mentioned map sensor...or my box's boost fooler is not acting right

this is a new thing ive noticed...it used to pull hard right thru to 3,000...this is coming on around 2,500 and im losing 10psi some times....i cant ever duplicate the problem exactly twice.

i used to pull 33-34psi just before shifting to 5th...hold 35 psi and shift to 6th, where it will hold 36-37psi...in the last 2 weeks ive been noticing it dying at 2500 rpms and its only making 30psi or less in 5th gear.

tongiht coming home in cool air i stood on it on an open road...had her wound out to 95mph, pulling 6th gear real hard...felt great then it had the hiccups...think maybe my vp-44 is getting ready to go again but jsut hasnt shown a code. it was really bucking at WOT.

i solved my problem...was doing an oil change and finally found that the wastegate tubing i mentioned was broken off leaving a nice boost leak. put a new tube on it and she runs like a spotted bottom ape now.

sadly i thought the clutch was slipping this whole time
