wastegate ?

95 automatic, 2nd generation 1 ton.
Do I really need a wastegate? It is unplugged as of right now, tried to move it manually & was unable to budge it. Is it normally opened or closed at startup? Is it really necessary? Restriction?
What is the purpose of it? Like an airinoid valve on the big cummings?
Thanks for any info.

If your truck is stock I'd say it probably won't harm anything, but it's meant to keep it from overboosting the turbo and having it fly apart on you. It also helps control EGT's and keep the turbo in it's efficient range. Now if you go and get some big sticks and DV's and start throwing fuel at it gallons at a time and make 40+ psi with the stock charger, you have a little bomb strapped to the side of your motor,,,which for the record is bad A boost elbow from any of the vendors is a good idea,,,it'll keep the safety of the wg but let it make alot more boost than stock. But either way, make sure to get guages before you play. I've blown one of these motors up and they aren't cheap to rebuild. AT ALL!
