VP Install

Did Anyone Skip The Barring The Engine Part and still end up ok on this install? I don't have a barring tool and I am wondering if i really need one. Can't I just hold the gear from falling by leaving my puller attached.

If you put a ratchet on the alternator nut, you can bar the engine over with that.

there is no reason to even think of starting the procedure if you can not get the engine to rotate by hand. if you pull the pump and drop the key you WILL hate yourself! as told before put a ratchet on the alternator nut and spin slowly. you may need to add pressure to the belt to get the engine to bite but it will. be sure to have the tranny in nutral.

the install is not too tough but if you are having trouble getting the engine to rotate you may want to take some time to study or reconsider doing it solo.

The main reason I can see for have to turn the motor to TDC is so the key is at the top. That way there is little chance it will fall off.

If the VP is seized will the engine still rotate to TDC? Also will the belt bite if I try and turn from the alternator nut?

The belt will only bit in one direction. Counter-clockwise I believe. Does teh motor turn over period? If so the VP44 is turning with it unless the key sheared

It does turn over. I will try the alternator nut and see what that does for me.
