Vacuum pump for Jacobs exhaust brake?
Just want to verify this information. Dodge trucks after 1998 have a vacuum pump and a vacuum line (or "harness"
already on the vehicle, right? So you can plumb the pneumatics from the exhaust brake directly into it? You don't have to buy a separate vacuum pump assembly and set it up? Dealer says so, and the Jacobs installation manual on the website seems to verify, but I want to make sure before I start into it.

Mine's an '02 3500, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!
ascraeus

Re:Vacuum pump for Jacobs exhaust brake?
oh -yeah, '03 definatly needs a vacuum pump...I saw his truck was '02 and missed the wording on his '98 & up statement. :
On the subject of the '03 pump - that sucker shure does whif, I think it is nearly as noisy as the motor.

Re:Vacuum pump for Jacobs exhaust brake?
I really am wondering why Jacob did not build a e brake for the 2003 using a compressor. This would eliminate the belt driven vac pump, give you something to hook other air acc's to. Not like it would be a bid deal as they deal with large trucks with air brakes. Not to mention the reduced costs for us retail customers

I don't think the cost difference is too large. Plus thoose compressors are too small to be used for much, guess yoou could blow a tire up if you had a 1/2 hour or so to spare
Re:Vacuum pump for Jacobs exhaust brake?
Look at the cost difference between the '03 kit and the'02 kit, or the pacbrake vs. the jacob. With the addition of a tank you would be all set to inflate a tire, or run air suspension, or horns if you like, plus one more belt driven accy not to have to maintain. Hmmmm maybe I'm on to something here.....hydarulic pressure to run the e brake
Just run a line from the ps pump

Or with the Vac pump you can run Vac trailer breaks, everything has its goods and bads.
Being in the off road world I have been around them little electric pump, and to be truthfull they aren't much good other then to run what they are intended. They don't put out enough volume of air and some aren't meant to be running all the time. Put on a good engine driven pump to run the Pac Brake (can you order one with out a pump?) then you would have something, back to a belt again
One other thing, I have had compresser air line freeze up in the winter on my air lockers.
