Question turbo info ?

hi

i have a 98 12 valve .auto trans
seams to have hi egt pulling at app35 mph up steep grades where i think i could use more boost at the lower speeds 3.55 gear ..

would installing a wicked wheel in the turbo help this ?
anyone ever used this and got more boost down low ?
no real prob at hiway speeds .
thank you !

HX35s boost well across the board. Just need to add fuel sooner. Look at tuning the pump.

Have you checked for boost leaks?
Rips in the boots can cause this. Check the lower ones on a 2nd gen they like to rub the fender lip.
Also check if your intercooler is leaky.
All the clamps good and snug?

I have seen at low boost a small leak will lower the boost considerably, but at say 20 PSI - the small leak is not as noticeable as the percentage of air leaked is much smaller.

With a 180 HP pump with bumped timing, a "messed with AFC" in your words, and a #10 plate, I would expect to see more than 24 PSI. I would expect to see 30+.

no leaks last time i chegked , been a while .

rebuilt turbo app 30,000 miles

it will spool higher than 24 at higher rpm ,

my isue is to get higher psi at lower rpm when pulling steep grades at lower rpm to cool egt .

egt is easily reading 1200 pulling at 1600- 2000 rpm .

has no one on here tryed the wicked wheel in there turbo ?

thank you !

Maybe look at adjusting your wastegate.

Ultimately, it takes fuel to make boost.

Could you describe when and how this was done.
Pretty easy to check the lower boots for cuts, holes and tears, even by hand.

Another option is shift down a gear when the ETGs are getting too high.
Pulling big loads up steep grades at 1600 RPM is the perfect recipe for getting the ETGs high.
