tripple or single disk TC
tripple or single disk TC
What is the necessity for a tripple disc TC? If I dont tow why would I need one for everyday driving? Wouldnt a single disc TC with a good Shift kit or Valve body be sufficient? I dont want to have to do this again so if the tripple disc is really necessary then I would rather get it now than have to learn my lesson later. Also, what accessories are required to run a tripple disc TC? Do you have to have a lock up switch? Trying to figure out how to spend my money. Thanks.

Kevin, Call Dave at Goerends www.gbtransmissions.com or Bill or Stephan at DTT www.dieseltrans.com and ask the same questions of both. Then you can make up your mind as to which one you want and need.

Im pretty much looking for experience to talk not some vendor. Anyone with some realworld experience with the two products please chime in. Not to knock any vendors but I would like to know how these two options work in the real world. Thanks.

I would do a multi.
You can pick up a good multi for a good price if you look hard enough.
You do not need anything special to run a multi.
I think stator configuration (stall speed) is the most important part of deciding what converter to use.

I think a single disk is fine to about 450hp. I had a Sun Coast Pro Loc Single and it did great for a lot of miles. I went with a triple when I knew I was going above that.
Stator design is always talked about and is usually mentioned in favor of one vendor in particular. I can tell you that Sun Coast can build them just about anyway you wish, but for daily drivers, Joe Webb has guided me in the right direction everytime, especially with 12v's. For racing applications, he has built whatever he has been asked to build.
IMO - I would not go with a real tight converter with a 12v. If your truck is like most 12v's, it will shift very quick into gears with the extra power. A real tight converter will cause it to pull down, lag, and smoke. A balance between tight and factory is what I looked for, and I got it with a Pro Loc 44.
Just my opinion for my personal taste in driveability.

I ran a suncoast single for 20K before I started building multi's.
I was running high 13's before it let go, I was also running a very low stall sheet metal stator. The stall was great for the track, but when you are sitting in traffic with the a/c on it is very hard to control smoke. It was a pain to tow with also. Forget about backing up a load on an incline if you are running a low stall stator.
And again, spool up time and stall are all a matter of personal preference. A lag pig to one could be a lightning fast spooler to another.
