tranny saw 240!!

I was hauling a big load the other day, first one since my tranny was rebuilt. Was taking it real easy, not pushing hard or anything. My gauge showed my tranny on 240. I've never seen it that hot, it was taken from the pan. What do you guys think I should do? What is an ok hot number to reach...limit? Thanks!

Check the cooler, may be plugged or restricted. How fast were you going?

I had mine up to 250* a week or so ago. I made the ~20% grade climb up to the Chateau Lake Louise Hotel near Banff Alberta. There's a sign at the bottom of the hill advising against trucks and trailers or "oversized vehicles" attempting the climb. I was pulling a 34' RV at the time. GCW was right around 18,500#. Climb was about 2.5 miles long. Engine got to 3/4 on the gauge too. I had to go slow (~20 - 25mph) due to traffic congestion and tight corners. Trans fluid still red and no burned smell.

My temp sensor is in the hot line out to the cooler.

If you think your tranny could handle a lock up switch that would do it or get a new VB from Goerends that locks it up in 2nd. Mine hit 280 a couple of months ago (in the hot line) and my fluid is still a purty red so I'm not worried about it.

Go here http://www.tstproducts.com/index.asp...on=Custom&ID=4 and then scroll to torque converter lockup switch. I might cost $10 but I would advise you to do a search on this site for "lock up switch" or "mystery switch" before you do anything and read what "can" happen to your tranny if you do something stupid. I was going to do the switch but chickened out and will just have my tranny upgraded to the VB.

Your fluid will have a burnt smell and be brown if it's bad.

Alright, thanks man. I'll check it out, see if the cooler is plugged first, or get a different one.
