tranny ?s

i know these trannys arent know for being strong and same with the converter, but what is it that tends to cause destruction. also with them being weak how long would you say a freshly stock rebuilt tranny will hold up on a edge comp on step 4 and 5

these trannys are very strong and reliable when you build them to match the power of what your throwing at them. The 47re was a gas based tranny during testing and development and was carryed over to the diesels because they held well in the gas engine test. But since then we relize that the diesel engine has pushed them to there stock built limits. I drive my truck hard a lot and tend to abuse my tranny a lot but since ive built it correctly and modded it to my power i cant complain it just takes it and keeps going like it loves it more i toss it at it.

My friend with an '05 recently had Desert Diesel Parts aka Fred Swanson upgrade his tranny to handle 350-400rwhp. The bill came to $3800.00 at the time. Not a full on upgrade like many guys have done but sufficient to handle before mentioned power levels. Call around to the popular tranny installers and get a consensus of opinion. With fuel approaching $4.00 a gallon soon in light of world events, massive hp upgrades might get expensive at the pump. Mine dynos out at 300hp and 643 trq. and it seems pretty darn quick when I remove the 1800 lb. camper on my back. I still get 13.5 mpg. around town with camper even with the power. Thanks to the tranny, that's more than I got before the mods. Much more power to the ground. Good luck.

Try a VB upgrade. You can get a good one for $500 bucks, and one of our more abusive memebrs that I'm not gonna name has just a DTT VB holding 400 horsepower.(probabally more since Tyler added the TST)

I paid 2800 for my Goerand Brothers tranny and I love it.
I often pull a 15K trailer at 80MPH with no problems.
