Which do people prefer to drive 5/6 speed or a automatic. Which gives you more power and acceleration. and just in general which do you prefer

 

This is strictly personal prefrence. I am not voting, because I like them both. The automatics are definatley the best for racing, and manuals are usually a little better for pulling. Just depends on what you want.

Eric hit this one one on the head... I voted manual because I pull pretty much every day, but rarely race.

 

Mine's a tow vehicle. I like the control and reliability of a standard.

I drive around town too much. Kinda hard to talk on the cell phone, read the paper, drink coffee, steer and shift at the same time.

 

Exactly. Me too. Bit of a control freak so I want to rev the engine where I want it. Plus the e brake is so good too.

 

I'm also going to have to go with a no vote.... it's a combination of personal preferance and what you plan to do with the truck.

 

I like the sticks more because you don't have to throw a lot of money at it to get the power to the ground, until you start putting some high hp out .

 

Also not voting! Have driven both and see advantages to each.

Got them both and like both. Have to say that I like the 6 speed when I'm towing, but the auto it nice for puttering around.

Towing is easier on a manual and manuals are generally more reliable.

I've seen some people really abuse manuals without failure. Automatics are another story.

This truck is the first truck I've ever had with a standard and I love it. Although I live in Montana, so I don't exactly deal with a lot of bumper to bumper traffic.

I like having the control of the manual. Downshifting for hills is nice.

I just find a manual a blast to drive. Its just plain fun for me.

However, for racing, a built auto is the way to go, at least in diesel pickup. Its too bad it will set you back $4000. Versus $500-$800 for a clutch.

 

I have an auto which I admit is very nice and convient (cell phone, coffee, holding map ect...). And, when pulling my 30' travel trailer in traffic, shifting is one less thing to have to contend with.

But I hate that I miss out on all that nice low end torque while my factory torque converter is spinning up to its RPM level.

So I think my vote may be because the grass always looks greenier on the other side of the fence.

I wish I could choose my gear and have it locked in solid instead of the mushy feeling of the auto.

I pick the 5/6 speed manual. (If my auto & T/C were "built" I may choose differently)

 

?? Last price I heard someone say they were quoted was $1,000 ..... just for the starter set. No?

Oh, one more thing. Cupholders. The automatic comes with more convient cupholders
