Torque Conv. lock up question.
i was thinking of doing this myself ...but for different reasons....id like to be able to postpone lockup or be able to unlock at will....and also so i can drive in 2nd gear locked up in slow parts of town to avoid burning up the fluid ...u guys know what i mean its when 3rd gear's rpms are just too low in certain sections of town so u drive in 2nd but u dont wanna be unlocked too long so your tranny doesnt heat up...manually put in 2nd and have a lockup option...what do u guys think

OK, Im convinced, I need to try this setup. My only real intrest is putting some of this power on the ground in lower gears.
On the highway now, once i hit 45-50 , I lock up and Im gone, but getting to 45 somtimes can be embarrasing (by comparrison t ocars)
I just want to be able to get moving alot faster. Im thinking an illuminated switch right next to the OD switch.
Also , once the truck has accelerated to normal lockup speeds, and the switch is shutoff, will it remain in locked up mode?
or after installing do you constanty have to control where ever you want to lock up?
Like I had said, Im interested in the benifits, But ive had hotrodded stuff in the past, and I know the aggrivation of overcomplicating your ride.

It depends if how fast you are going when you turn the switch off. If you are going as fast or faster than the speed it normal locks at, then yes, it will stay locked. But if you have it locked and are doin say 30, then it will unlock itself. I know, especially if someone is tryin to race you and you are slooww. haha. But if you have it locked, it makes it alot faster than what it usually is. Hope this helps...
oh man i hope you're saving for a new tranny and you just wnna blast this one before you part ways with it
...going through the gears locked is gonna shread the fibers on the TC clutch as will having it locked up below 1600rpm while flooring her hard....i know it sounds like a really cool low buck mod (it is) but use with extreme caution

I understand what your saying about caution and using it in moderation, It it much safer to use above the 1600 rpm range?
Im ot trying to trash the trans, I just have a buddy who just picked up a new F450, hp vs. hp he has me beat.
At lockup speeds now, i pull away from him too, Only place im getting passed it on teh first 150 feet

that ferd of his revs twice as high as yours..and the stall on their new tranny is more closely matched to the 2000rpm torque peak than your 1500 rpm torque peak so dont even worry about the silly f450...
say ur both running 300hp k..at that hp he has 560 torqe and ur 12 valve has about 750 torque at 300hp so more reason to take it easy on ur tranny..
im not hating at all dont worry
put the switch in and lock it up and floor it and you'll rip by him with all kinds of smoke...dont do it too often thats all im saying

PS. anybody have any decent injectors they want to get rid of, help me fuel the fire?
I should have known a few years ago, when all you guys said this stuff was addictive

HEY PEOPLE! I thought this was my thread! WOW lots of cool info here.
I did a lot of testing on my 99, and right, 1st & 2nd doesnt work. You do need to use the OD off switch if you want to loc up 3rd & 4th. I would suggest only using it for OD. Just don't really want to see this ole boys tranny expload. I do have a 17 year old son that loves to mash the pedal! Thanks all for the info!
