Took the dually to the dyno

Hi all,

Some of you may have been following my thread about what turbo I should buy to replace the stocker. Well, I took the truck to the dyno today, partly to baseline it with the stock turbo. I sprayed the nitrous, and on the last (and best) pull, I removed the BHAF. It made 417 hp and 920 ft/lbs. I felt like that's pretty reasonable for having a stock turbo corking it up. Without the nitrous, it made 340 hp and 670 ft/lbs. The non-nitrous pull was the first, and I don't think the truck was really warmed up enough. I beat the previous torque record on that dyno by something around 250 ft/lbs. It was 600-something ft/lbs before, I think set by a car. I'll be going back shortly once I get my new turbo installed. I'm hoping to peg the torque on the dyno-it reads to either 1000 ft/lb or 1200 ft/lb-they can't remember.

It's a #82. That size was carefully and scientically arrived at by going up in size until it "felt right."

Good job on the dyno runs. Maybe NOS would get me to 500hp? Hmmmmm, Or just blow the head gasket.

I think he probably saw greater gains than normal with the nitrous due to the stock charger and the heavy fuel. You might not see that much of a gain with a bigger charger.

Sure I would. MORE FUEL!!!!

Seriously though, I think you're right about the gains being large because of the extra fuel. I think you can imagine just how big the smoke cloud is with my setup and no nitrous. My friends don't really believe I can make traffic behind me COMPLETELY disappear until they witness it.

I do. I've been there when trying to run a catcher ecm with a heavy fueled truck in high humidity. Funniest thing you will ever see is people driving around the smoke like might get on there car.

You notice a decent reduction in EGT's with the nitrous flowing?
Tim.

Yeah, pretty good reduction. I don't know how much, because the gauge only goes to 1500 degrees. I'll put it this way: without it, I was not able to run an 1/8th mile pass before pegging the gauge. With it, I was able to complete a 1/4 mile pass just after it pegged it.
