Too much smoke
Too much smoke
I am thinking of upgrading my current upgrades. I'm not sure which way to go. I am starting with a Scotty 2 (back ordered) and a Max Flow System. Next will be EDM's, either Mach 2's or 3's not sure which to go with due to the amount of smoke that pours out with the DD2's. Then I was thinking of a KSB1B. Will the smoke levels be less than the DD2's and stock turbo with the Mach 2's and 3's or should I stick with the 2's. Is the KSB1B enough for the Mach 3's. My goal is 400+ HP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am no expert, so take this FWIW.
I think the Mach 2s would smoke less than the DD2s. The Mach 3s will probably smoke a little more than the DD2s. Remember that the Mach 3s are about equal to SuperMentals as far as HP goes, so you are moving a lot of fuel.
If you want 400hp and you tow, I would go a wee bit smaller on the injectors (Mach 1.5s seem to be the ultimate towing injector) and run a wire-tap box. This way you'll get LOTs of torque, little smoke, and controllable EGTs. A KSB1-B would be a great match for this combination. NO EGT issues at all and quick spoolup.
If you don't tow, then I would go a little bigger on the turbo and on the injectors. I would run a KSB-1 and some Mach 3s.
What trans do you have? You need to build a signature describing your truck so we can make better suggestions. BTW-- Welcome to DTR.
I would also say that you should run slightly smaller injectors on an automatic vs a stick. If you would use a Mach 3 on a stick, then go down to a Mach 2 or 2.5 on the auto. Reason being that the autos tend so smoke a bit more b/c of the way they load the engine.
For example, I have DD2s and an EZ. I can only really get it to smoke with the EZ on max fuel. If I unplug the EZ, I GET NO SMOKE AT ALL. This is at 6000' elevation (Cheyenne).
I think that all in all you would be happier with the Mach2 injectors or Mach1.5. I would personally go with the 1.5s, since they actually smoke LESS than a STOCK injector!!!
If you are in CO and live in any kind of elevation, you want a hair less injector to combat smoke.
Hope this helps!

Mechanos: I have done some heavy towing with my truck and hooked up a temp sensor to the rear end when I installed the Mag-Hytec diff cover. The rear end gets hotter than you might think, even with the Mag-hytec cover installed. Since I had the gauge I added another temp sensor to the tranny and connected both sensors through a switch. I can keep an eye on both. I have had both pushing the 250 deg mark on long trips.

Look up DTR Member "GatorRam" He will probably has some info for you.
He was running some BD2's and a PDR HX-40/16, and went to some Mach 1.5's and a B-1 KwikSpool (with a new wheel)
