Too hot to handle...

Put my newly upgraded Drag Comp in a couple of weeks ago and went for a spin...WW what a difference!! Only thing, I hit the 1000 deg mark post turbo befroe I knew it!! Didn't do that again and then this weekend I moved my probe pre-turbo and ran it again...hit 1400 in 4th for a split second before I had to get out of it...not happy...time for another turbo...the "modified" S300 aint going to cut it...any recommendations on what to replace it with? I was thinking a B1 line...also the only other mod I plan to make in the future is a set of Mach 2's

i was thinking the b1 was a modified s300, and mine has hit 1400 a couple hundred times. alway short bust, say 5 seconds or less except the truck pulls.

What would be a good single or set of twins to run on my machine so I can move up to the Mach2's? Don't do too much heavy towing.

No need for twins just to run the Mach 2s. Even a basic single upgrade like the 35/40 hybrid will be a considerable improvement over stock.

As you go up the HP ladder, you'll hit a point where a turbo large enough to burn your fuel just isn't streetable. Either the Pressure ratios are to much, or it will be too laggy.

THIS is the point where twins really start to be worth the price. I'd say that 450hp is perfectly reasonable with a single. Once you get above 500, then twins are more and more the way to go.

With my current set-up, and the FMS box perpetually on kill, my max EGT is 1067 and peak boost of 67 psi. For me, twins were the answer to good drivability and EGT control. But as mentioned by HOHN, you won't need them until you you cross that line. One also needs to be prepared to take some preventive action to upgrade the drivetrain, fuel supply and head sealing along with twins. Oh yeah and brakes too!

I've already got the Super B Single turbo which I understand is a modified S300 which they (BD) explained was comparable to the HX40. I'm getting too hot now with only 275's. My boost is around 40 psi. If twins are too much for me, what would be a good single to run if I change to the Mach 2's?

All of the upgrade turbos will help and work great. Dodgezilla, HX40, B-1 variants, etc.

Budget is the biggest factor.

Man you guys must work the chit out of your trucks. I drive my 02 with reg Comp and Mach2s on 3x5 daily with stock 12cm. I can hit 1450 during short bursts in 4th and 5th but I'm also looking for cops at that point cause I'm doing 85 in a couple secs lol.

Ok, well what I'm getting after is that I could melt my rig down now with the upgrade trubo that I have...Super B single (comparable to the HX40). I can hit 1400 no problem in 4th gear with no load. I want to upgrade to the Mach 2's, but can't even keep the 275's cool now. If money were no object, what single and which twin setup would be the best to cool and have quick spoolup for my rig. I rarely tow heavy with it and it's mostly used for offroad and highway miles?

With the Drag Comp and Mach 2's you will have to go to a Full B-1 or maybe an HX-55; there goes you quick spool up.
I can hit 1500* for 5-6 sec in qtr mile with my set up...and I'm 1 step below the full B-1, without the TST Comp (big box).

So you really think a KSB1 will run cooler with your setup than a B1-2 and why? I know Rod suggested a different HP rating but I haven't heard anyone else including Ken say anything that supports that. Should have my B1-2 on next weekend so we'll see how it does.

Don't know for sure. The new ratings on the different B-1 models came out after I ordered, but was told I got the "new" KSB-1. I wanted the bigger turbine housing for possible future upgradeability. Rod told me his info came from Ken and have no reason to doubt him.

I know I just dynoed at 460/980 which puts me just over the 450 hp street limit for the KSB-1; again according to the new ratings. And at 460 hp my set up appears to be at the upper limit for drive pressures on the KSB-1 turbo, based on my testing.

Would love to hear how your B1-2 works for you. PM me your e-mail address if interested in the test data I ran on the KSB-1. Since we are similar in set ups, might be worth a comparison test.

PM sent with email. Yeah I am still confused about the rating Rod suggested. I spoke to Ken and Jack a couple times and they assure me that they have not changed anything in the B1 turbos and are not sure why Rod is rating them differently now. Maybe he has done some testing lately that suggests the new ratings who knows. I'm still waiting for Rod to chime in with his reasoning. I'm curious too how they vary given what I have seen with a KSB1 with Super Mentals, and a Drag Comp on an 01 HO that was way hot way fast. I should have at on later this week and will post back what I find. My guess is that Con FE sitting on my basement floor will have to go in soon
