timing tools ,where to get them??

okay so i went to the dodge dealership and talked to the mechanic, a really nice guy thats already helped me before, well he didn't sound to excited about me advancing the timing (said that on my 160 pump that with my future mods that i should send the pump into a shop) but im not so i asked how much for the tools and it was like 300 dollars for the dial gauge thing and adapters, which is all i need since a steering wheel puller can pull the gear off the pump, but he made the whole process sound like it was going to take 5 hours, so what do you guys think, and were can i get the tools from?? sorry for the long write, thanks

you can do the timing, just need to know what your doing, and if i was to do it it'd take me less then an hour...

it all depends on the knowledge, and ... dont know what else....

I'm having the same problem here. My timeing (according to DDP) after putting the new injctors in has sliped so bad I cant drive the truck at all and no one has the tools avilable. Cummins and dodge have no idea what im talking about of course, this miller SPX tool place listed in the TSB for timing wont have anything untill the middle of next month. Does anyone have maybe a dodge or cummins part number or an idea of where I can locally get this stuff today?
Thanks

Theres a thread in the 12v forum about homemade timing tools. A stock oil pan plug will fit into the DV holder. Drill out the center of the plug so you can fit a 0-25mm dial in it. Drill and tap the plug from the side for a set screw to keep the dial from moving. THen you just need a gear puller, and some means of barring the engine over.
