timing advance 12 v

need to know hoe its done brother in law wants to advance his his truck is stock will this help or hurt

it helps, just be sane about it... depending on the year, 16* might be a number. What year and trans?

It will require a couple hundred dollars in special tools, for most people having someone else do it is a better deal.

Do a search, some guys have talked about marking the harmonic balancer and moving the timing about 1/4 to 3/16. When I changed mine the first time it was at about 12 and we moved it to 18.5 it was a bit over 3/16. A buddy of mine has the gauges to set timing, I was afraid to try the mark moving deal. Timing sure does make them run better.
