Time to tinker! Sport lights,Banjo bolts and turbo questions.

So I'm gettting geared up to start tearing into my new '01 and have a few questions.

I have a new LP(Delphi) that I'll be installing. Anything else I should be while its out? I have heard that the flow on the bango bolts leaves much to be desired. If I'm staying below 350hp is this something I need to worry about? More worried about reliabililty than I am about squeezing out every last HP.

What size exhaust housing does my turbo have? I read somewhere its a 10cm? Seems really small. I have a 12cm WG housing on my first gen and a 16 and 18cm exhaust housing sitting under the bench. Are they of any use on the '01?

I have the Sport model with the 4 bulb system, the inner two lights don't come on at all, the outer two work normally with hi/low. Haven't been able to get the lock ring off yet to check the bulbs yet, I think I'm going to have to pull the whole assembly, they're really jammed. Do the inner ones just come on with hi beams or do they have a low as well?

Your 2001 has a HY35 turbo, and parts from the HX35 will not fit on it. I just ditched my HY35 for a PDR35W12 and I am happy with the results, however I have not towed yet to see the overall effect on EGT reductions. PDR says 100-150 degrees. SNOKING

I also have a 01, check the turbo for oil residue. My did, so the dealer replaced it free @ 90,000 miles, made a huge difference.

-4" exhaust from WarpSpeed cheapest and very satisfied
-banjo bolt kit from Geno's, cheap upgrade
-BHAF you know
-Does the Van Aken have the boost fooler built in the box?
-If so, turnbuckle the wastegate if your transmission is strong
-Remove silencer ring from turbo intake

Thanks for the tips, my '01 has 260,000kms so I don't think the dealer wants to hear anything about warrenty work.

What is the boost fooler on the VA box and how do I know if its got it? As far as I can tell there is no wire hooked to the map sensor. What does the turnbuckle do?

How far can the stock trans be pushed? I'm holding off on guages for a bit as I'm planning to get the Edge/A2 combo. Anybody have one with the backup camera? I put a trailer on and off my truck a few times a week so this would be very handy!

I'll research the Geno's bango bolt.

turnbuckle will clamp your wastegate shut, I don't know anything about VA boxes. I would relocate the stock LP to the framerail for reliability. and while your doing that, you can make your own bigline kit. It'll do nothing but help your VP44 survive.

I got Ability hose here near my shop to make me up the M12 JIC fittings I wanted and one M12 griptite hose barb fitting for the new suction side of the pump.

This'll do away with ALL the banjo bolts in the fuel transfer system = Good.

Goes to show how brain dead I can be, I just noticed your in Cochrane also!

Forget the banjos and relocate the LP to the frame. Does nothing for performance but makes pump changes a breeze. I'll have to check but I might have enough fittings for the needed hoses.

As mentioned, you have an HY35 turbo. A simple step up would be an HX35. I may have one available real quick, I have a PDR35/14 siting at the coast to pick up in a couple of weeks. My HX is spoken for but I haven't heard from the guy in awhile so it may be available.

Even the older VA boxes had a plug to the map sensor (I have one) unless you have the super old VA box, but doubt it. Follow the wires again.

The boost fooler tells the computer you are at 21lbs no matter how high it goes above 21lbs and prevents the computer from throwing an overboost code. It is needed if you turnbuckle or j-hook the waste gate actuator on the HY-35 (can't use a boost elbow on this turbo because the tube is solid). Most don't recommend running the stock turbo greater than 35lbs, otherwise it just looses efficiency. With the VA box and no injectors, with a turnbuckle most seem to hit high 20's or low 30's boost numbers.

Homestead: if you have those fittings I'd be very interested in picking them up off of you. I have a new Delphi pump in the back seat waiting to go in, hopefully this weekend.

Demon, thanks for the number for the BHAF but I actually got one from NAPA(had it in stock) for $66CDN. How much was your Cummins one?

BTW the old OEM pump is still in and working. Would there be any benefit to running both pumps or should I remove the OEM unit?

im running the stock with a holly blue.. little high on the pressure but almost 6months running both and no problems! and a few even say it helps the stock pump last longer.. i`ll find out soon enough
