Talking thoughts and questions

SO. im finally starting to add power to my beater, and i cant seem to wipe the grin off my face i did the 3k gsk and took it out for a spin, and wasnt impressed at all, period. so i took out the fuel plate, and well ya, im more than impressed truck rips compared to stock or anything like it. but it still seems to taper the power off starting around 2300rpm. not nearly close to what the stock springs did but its noticeable. is this normal with my setup? also, now looking for a good clutch that can handle those gobs of torque. stock one is telling me it cant pull 4th or 5th gear at anything past 1/2 throttle lol southbend, luk, centerforce? just looking for a clutch that will take about 450hp and not (if possible) break the bank. i will spend on quality if necessary but want to only do it once.

heres to new-found diesel power

A 4k gsk is gonna pull harder like u want it too. I have a 5k gsk in my 94 and it pulls til about 3800 but that's when my 838 pump just doesn't have the fuel to keep fueling. As far as a clutch I have been pretty impressed with Luk Pro Gold clutches holding around 450 hp but I would also recommend Valair Clutches. They make some nice clutches for some very decent prices.

hmm i didn't put in the 4k cause i didnt have the valve springs in yet and didn't wanna risk floating them. but it still acts like its got no gsk almost. still starts dying at 2300' and can barely pull 2800 running hard but empty. does it perhaps wants a timing bump? really would like to run hard til 3, and not feel that characteristic defueling after 2300.....any help is appreciated.

I have a 3k gsk in mine it pulls hard right to 3000 rpm, you may have them set too loose, as far as a clutch goes I'm happy with my south bend, would stay away from a centerforce, I have not heard good things about them in diesel applications

Never had issues with my 3k springs...It really helped my performance..What would also help is injectors...I can't remember off hand but our trucks with the 175 pump have 192 injectors...If you find a set of 215 injectosr for a heck of a good deal, they really help...Later I will be going at little bigger injector but then the turbo will be the problem...The skys the limit when you start performance tuning...

well it definitely helped performance. i mean it fuels faster, better throttle response and it does fuel higher, just doesn't fuel as hard up top as i expected. but then again maybe my expectations were wrong. and iv been doing a ton of research and can't help thinking timing is necessary at this point. o ill b getting injectors....probably ddp stage 3 . Haha actually the bank account is the limit....lol

I think gsk were the best mod to date that I have done, I hear ya about the bank account!! Currently saving for a big turbo to use for compounds, and injectors, its never ending!

other thing is my pump is visibly leaking fuel between the high pressure and low pressure part. probably losing performance there, but i hear its a common issue on the p71000. so just another thing on the to-do list lol

I doubt you would float the lifters on a daily driver truck with a 4k gsk. You would need to be sled pulling and hold close to 3500 rpm for a extended period of time to have any problems. I would also recommend injectors from SDX or Low Budget Diesel. They will perform much better and are alot easier on your bank account.
