Thinking of purchasing a used head

I am thinking about purchasing a used head either from a 99 24v or a 02 24v. Both have similar miles, about 140k. Will there be any problems with it fitting on an 01? The reason i want to do this is i think that i can get them at a resonable price, and if i can, i want to have it worked over with all the goodies and then swap it onto my truck with it all worked over. Is this a good idea or am I asking for problems? Has anyone done this before? That way i wont have the truck down and out. Let me know what you guys think, thanks in advance

24v used heads usually have many cracks and are no good with that kind of mileage. If possible take both to a machine shop and have them checked before buying.

Have it pressure checked and magnafluxed before doing any machine work. Mine has cracks in it going through the exhaust seats in 5 spots. Also had worn out valve guides which caused many of my exhaust valves to leak.

Is the head off an ETH? (02)

You probably won't find any cracks on a ETH head. (read: pressed in valve seats)

You will need to have the valve guides checked, and get a new set of valve stem oil seals.

yeah, the 02 head is from a ETH motor, however, it is not possible to be able to have either one tested. Is it could of a risky move to buy one without being able to test it first? Thanks

I would not buy one without having it checked.

BUT if you were to buy one I would get the 02 head.
