TC lockup and shifting questions
TC lockup and shifting questions
I need some help on my next upgrade. Torque converter.
I know, if I talk to Goerend or others will explain, but I want to ask publicly first then decide with them.
I am practically stock now, I will upgrade to a V.Aaken and larger injectors, target HP about 400/450hp top, I need power to pull, not race.
I want to change my shifting pattern A LOT......
Right now truck takes off revs up to 2700rpm and keeps shifting all the gears, and this looks like it's standard Chrysler transmission pattern, I hate it.
I want to have motor pull truck not transmission, I want TC to lockup right away at any gear and have motor do it's job. Just like having a 5 speed, only auto.
Firsrt gear take off, lockup, motor takes it to next shift, lockup again motor goes to next, etc.
My foot on pedal will decide amount of throttle to motor and to rear wheels, it will save me a lot of $$ with mpg too.
Is this possible ?
I don't know if I made myself clear, what I would like is not to have my motor scream at 2700rpms all the times I step on throttle.

Having your tc lock up right away will be very hard on all the trans components and the rest of the drive train.
You can get away with a single disk TC outfitted with a billet front cover and a much lower then stock stator.
The lower stall stator will start to move the truck at around 1500 to 1700 RPM's.
For towing I would not suggest going much lower then that because you will run into smoke related spooling issues.
As for the shift points they can be adjusted the next time you service the trans and drop the pan.
Give me your email address and will email you how to adjust your shift points.

Justin, I know it was a dream having a transmission like that, but I tried.
You can email me at valv@kvesurplus.com, I'll be glad to see how to make it shift different.

Yes, you can adjust shift point as to when it goes into next gear....but isn't the TC lockup controlled strictly by torque and the PCM??
Valv - I think DDT's single disk TC and high line pressures are close to what your asking for. Maybe Dave G. has aomething similar. Example - my 1st gear engages around 1400 rpm. Other than some delay in 3rd gear lock-up, based on throttle position...my truck (empty) drives very much like what your wish list was describing.
