Unhappy Surging problems getting worst

I have written a couple post on this problem but it has gotten to the point the truck barely runs. A little history, The truck started surging between 45-50mph while in OD and not accelerating (no load on engine) but would run great while accelerating. I had the transmission completely serviced and checked out, no problems. After installing the HRVP44 the problem was more noticeable, 45-55mph. I changed the Mach 4 injectors for my old BD stage 1's. This calmed things down to the way it was before installing the HRVP44. Just seems the combination of big injectors and bigger injection pump just enhanced the problem but was not the cause. I then re-installed the Mach 4's. I have adjusted the valve rack (all except two were in tolerance) and adjusted the Apps (from .337 to .448). The truck will idle fairly smooth when it is first started but will then get a slight miss while idling and warming up. Last weekend I lost all boost while driving around at home. I retightened the bolts on the intake (had removed injection lines this last weekend, checking out the ferrule ends) Boost came back up and would peg out my 35 psi gauge as it used to but the engine did not seem to respond to the turbo spool up as it had before. I made a trip from Central Louisiana to Houston last Monday. By the time I hit the Houston city limits the truck was running terrible. At traffic lights it would idle like I had a full race cam and would almost die. It takes off sluggish and power is lacking. I pulled the codes, 0222, 0230. Nothing else. I have checked out most things but am at a stand still now, Would this be the Apps or TSP? Could I have a bad valve?, Maybe need to change out gasket on intake and air horn? Maybe the Map sensor, IAT(which is clean)? Any ideas from the above info? I know it is difficult to diagnose troubles from far away and not being able to see and hear the problems but any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Gene

P 0222-APP Sensor 2 Circuit Low
P 0230-Transfer Pump (Lift Pump) Circuit Out Of Range

Sounds like your APPS is dead and maybe your lift pump.

Blue, I just changed the LP, installed a Vulcan system with carter pump, 15 psi. This pump runs stronger and I believe it is causing the code. Do you think the Apps would cause all the other problems?

Probably. These things are very sensitive. They usually can't be adjusted at all. Other than the simple little reset. I'd let someone with more experience and knowledge on these chime in before you go out and buy one but I'm betting money that it's your APPS.

When my APPS went I had what I suppose you could call 'surging'. It was so pronounced in my case that I characterized it this way: it felt like I was towing a car with a strap and the person in the car would let the strap go slack and then slam on the brakes...

It didn't do that when I used cruise control and for awhile, it only happened while running about 45-50mph. After a day or so, it got to the point where I was afraid to even drive the truck and that's about the time my check engine light came on. I had a P0121.

as for some of your other symptoms....

Gene007, I can email you the instructions to reset the voltage for the APPS, then you can at least see if that's the problem. If the problem reappears, you can change out the unit at that time. Drop me a PM with your address.

Piperca, I reset my apps to the voltage stamped on the unit and it did seem to be holding that value. The surging just seems to have gotten worst and now the truck is barely driveable. I think I will have to bite the bullet and change the Apps no matter what. Just have to eliminate one piece at a time. Can get costly, but I'm at my wits end.

graphitecumnz, The surging is a lot like you stated. And my check engine light has come on.

Is there a cheaper place to purchase the Apps assembly other than Dodge?

Thanks for the heads up piperca , I purchased the unit for a little over $200. Now I can't wait to get back to the states and put it on the truck. Hope it solves my problems, if not I guess it will be back on Ebay

Regards,
Gene

I have been reading many post and information about the symptoms of a bad apps. It seems most will have a dead pedal at times. Is this something that happens all the time or not? My truck has not done that so it makes me kind of wonder. I've bought a new apps but will not be back home for another 20 days and the suspense is killing me. Just can't wait to get things moving and fix my problem. I feel that the apps is going, I just worry too much.

Regards,
Gene
