Mine was straight piped when I got it. I felt it was just too loud at idle in the driveway. It also droned at 70 mph. I ended up putting it back to stock (had stock parts). A lot of folks feel that straight piping the back half, but leaving the front resonator solves the drone problem.

I cut the last bend off the tailpipe to clear my flaps. The drone went away and it got real quiet in the cab. I added an 18" extension to the tail pipe. I think the large tip causes the drone, not sure.

I just went to Straight Piping this weekend. I didn't want to but the muffler finally broke a little. So either spend the time grinding the welding or just replace with a straight pipe. 3" exhaust doesn't sound too bad but does get loud some times. I welded in a 40" section so if I ever do put a muffler back on, I have plenty of space to weld one in. Rather prefer one of Rip's system but $$ just isn't there yet.

You should try a 4" straight pipe with 32 pounds of boost. Heads don't just turn.... they duck and hide.

Funny you should say 4" pipe. Just finished talking to Rip Rook about pricing on his 4" complete system. My 3" pipe along with 40 lbs of boost does make a little bit of noise when I throttle up. Mostly concerned about snow plowing this winter with it. I am assuming the neighbors might start to complain while I push the snow around in the driveway so I am saving the $$ to hopefully get something in place before the snow flies. And, if you need to buy new, why not go bigger.

I ran my 2500 for about 8 months after pulling both the muffler and resignator off - that's when I discovered that about 99% of my exhaust system WAS 4" except for the downpipe at the turbo. I was scared as hell that CHP would be after me but they didn't even bother. It really wasn't that bad at all except when accelerating onto the freeway - especially going under an overpass or though a tunnel - that's when heads turned to look! LOL

I recently - about 3 weeks ago - pulled the entire system and installed a pair of stacks, 4" complete from turbo to back, came with a pair of baffles that went into the vertical stacks - although I am highly doubting that they work at all! Loud? Definately when accelerating, and I will no longer be driving down the freeway with my slider and rear vent windows open without a very good set of headphones on - I nearly went deaf the first time I tried that and had to suffer though 30 miles of freeway driving with it..

I have 4" straight pipe dumped under the bed in front of the rear axle and that sucker is LOUD!! At first it was cool, but now it's just annoying. I need to get a new pipe to go over the axle (my mom threw the other one away ). It sounds awesome though. I wouldn't trade the sound for anything in the world.
