Will straight-piping it hurt performance?

I've got an appt. at the muffler shop to get my Jeep turbo diesel straight-piped today. I want to make it a little louder...you know, kind of open it up and make it sound bigger than it really is. Will a straight-pipe hurt my diesel engine? Also, anybody know how to remove the turbo intake resonator on these?

That would be a different sound.. Sure would make those pop-can rice-rockets take a second look...>LOL..

Now all you need is Van Aayken on there for a bump in the power dept.

In short, the straight pipe won't bother the engine at all. You may want to make sure the local law enforcement don't mind..

Welcome the the DTR!!!..

Put a 5" stack through the top of the hood.

well straight piping DID hurt it. 2 hours later the engine malfunction light came on, the ABS light came on, and the blinkers stopped working. Later the ABS and blinkers came back, but the engine malfunction light is on to stay. I have to put the muffler back on now, otherwise the dealership will fuss.

actually it did get louder, and it did make the turbo whistle more noticeable. it also made a noticeable difference in throttle response and feel. as far as the overall sound though...it wasn't what i expected. nothing like a cummins inline-6. this engine sounds exactly like a small-medium size john deere tractor to me.

i guess i'll put my stock muffler back on so the light on the dash will go off. maybe soon there will be aftermarket stuff available for these...

Do we know what the lite is for??? Sounds like maybe something else triggered it. I have a hard time believing the muffler caused the CE lite. Are there any sensors in the exhaust??
