Talking Straight Pipe is on!

Well after a month or so of hassle I was finally able to get my straight pipe on and man does it sound awesome. I will see what I can do about getting a sound clip up within the next couple of days for others to hear that are debating on whether or not to do it. I don't think my neighbors are going to like me too much anymore though

Its just the stock 3 inch pipe with the same down pipe...would it be possible to have a 4 inch down pipe with the rest of the piping being 3 inch? would that be benificial at all?
I just took a sawzawl to the restrictive devices and bought 5 feet of 3 inch pipe, had each end opened up enough to go over the 3 inch pipe and welded it back together. Took me about an hour and a half or so to do it all.

??????

Just a bit curious about this - seems all my pipe from the bottom of the down pipe to the resignator, to the muffler and on out the back was all 4" pipe. When I had both my resignator and muffler pulled, they took a stock piece of 4" and welded everything back together. Did they use 3" on the earlier trucks? I thought it was all the same....

Later on, about 8 months later I added my stacks - 4" all the way from the back of the turbo....

I am not sure what size pip was on your truck but my pipe was definetly 3 inch from before the cat all the way to the back. Not sure what size my down pipe is but im gonna guess that it is 3 inch too.

i have 4" pipe from my turbo all the way to the back with a 5" tip, it sounds nasty, my neighbors hate me, and my dad thinks my truck is way too obnoxious...but i kinda like it that way!

I dont think there would be any benefits to running a 4" DP to a 3" system, I just didnt know if you put a 4" system on or a 3". So you do like the sound of the 3" then? I was going to wait til I could afford some 4 or even 5" pipe to straight pipe it because I heard the 3" straight can be raspy. But you say it sounds ok. Thats good to hear, mabye I will be straight piping earlier than I thought.
And dont quote me on this but arent the stock DPs a 2 9/16" opening to a 3"? I am not sure, someone buzz in that knows what they are talking about.

Thanks

-Jared

I agree, they do.But when you get a 4in. it is a little deeper and smoother than a factory straight pipe.

4 inch is no prob past the t-case....a little tight, but adequate, then open her up to 5. I liked the tone alot better with 5 over the 3, which I started out with. Noise level is the same, but the rasp is all but gone. That's all subjective to what you consider raspy. I think most will agree that straight 3 is quite obnoxious when reaching into the coal bucket. 5 mellows it out ALOT. Now I DO have the crossbox design as of now, which I know will change it some as well. In the not so distant future I will be changing over to all tight radius mandrel 90's and eliminating the box.
