I'm currently in the process of looking to buy my first diesel(00-02 3/4ton, 5 or 6 spd.) I was thinking if I get a single cab that I would put 6" stacks on it. Could somebody who has a single cab tell me what the noise level is like when cruising or hammering it, and what is like with the windows down or the back glass window open? I'm trying to figure out if this would be too loud since it's right there. But then again, who wouldnt want to hear a dodge with 6" straight stacks .

I've got 5's right behind my cab (reg cab) and as long as you go a few inches above the cab you will be alright.

My very first set was a pair of 5" miter's even with the cab......the DRONE would just about drive you out of the truck! Swapped for some 5" Turnouts above the cab for about a month......then went back to straight pipe........then went back to another pair of 5" turnouts above the cab and they sound wonderful.

Just wish you could make stacks as loud as a single straight pipe!

If I ever get another truck its get'n a 4" or 5" straight out the back, stacks were fun but a nice straight pipe is just RUDELY! loud!

I run 4" exhaust to 5" turnouts that are even with the top of the cab. There is a drone to it at about 22-2300rpms but I dont think its too bad. Sounds real good at 3500 rpms+ . I think 6" stacks wouldnt be too loud, just a nice mellower sound. If you drive with the window down, that all youll hear.

Hey DeereDiesel where do you live around Lima? I live in Monroeville. Faster thanFord I have a 2000 reg cab 6" turnouts and they are loud but not any louder than a 5" straight pipe. Have a bark taking off but cruisin down the road they quiet down good. I'd get them if I were you, I love mine. Me and a couple of my friends put the pipes on,Did a darn good job.

 

Its gonna be a hard decison for me, cause I love the way stacks look, but then I couldnt blow smoke in some ricers face. If I get it out the back, i'm gonna run a 4" down pipe then into 5" pipe, split it, run it over the axles and the put on that 6" tip that Rip Rook has. So either way, i'll be running stacks...just layed out differently.

 

I really like the sound of mine with the windows down. I have 5"miters. There was a bad drone at certain rpms until I switched out the stock exhaust manifold. Mellowed it out a lot. Couldnt be much better now. I used to drive a lot with the cab window open. One day I stretched and bumped the headliner with my hand, when I brought it down there was a clean spot on the headliner and a black spot on my hand. Upon further inspection I realized Id managed to soot my headliner up a bit. I took it out and cleaned it. It cleaned up fine, but Im gonna limit my cab window being open. I love em, and would do it again without thinkin twice. Its fairly loud with with windows down, and if you need it quiet you can roll em up and you can talk normal. Youll like em without a doubt.



Plus you can still blow smoke in the ricers face. Any speed over about 10mph sucks it right down over the back of the truck. Just do it

 

Really consider this option though because you will have to deal with the side effects should you later decide to change your mind. A 4"-5" hole in your bed.

Yes, I love my stacks but they are not as RUDELY loud as a straight pipe.

I plan on buying a Ext/Quad Cab within the next year, and when I get it I won't be putting stacks on it....rather either a single 4" or dual 4" out the back with 5" or 6" tips pointed downward towards the ground. THAT! should be LOUD!
