speedliner fading?
speedliner fading?
I have my truck sprayed in Speedliner, it was done in red, and it's faded pretty bed along the bedrail, and on the along the bottom of the truck. Since I can't afford the $2000 I was quoted, I was wondering about painting it black. I went to lowes to look at paints. I was thinking on plastic paints and just spaying the whole think black. its red right now. Anyone have any better ideas?
Here is a bit of history: First on the scene were epoxy based products. They were not very durable, they cracked, peeled, etc. Then, ONE-part polyurethane products came along (also referred to as “solvent based”). One-part means that the polyurethane is suspended in a solvent. A catalyst is added which starts a chemical reaction that removes the solvent so that you have just polyurethane left. The catalyst can be a liquid chemical or even just air. One-part polys were a significant improvement over epoxy based products. Examples of today’s one-part polyurethanes include Herculiner, Duplicolor, Durabak, Superliner, and Speedliner. The newest technology is TWO-part polyurethanes. Two-part means that a resin (usually a polyol resin) is mixed with isocyanate (a hardener) which renders the polyurethane. Two-part polyurethanes are harder and much more durable than one-part polyurethanes. Two-part polys are used on today’s boats, airplanes, etc. Examples of today’s products that have two-part polyurethanes include LINE-X and Rhino.
$499 to spray it black? You're getting ripped off big time!!!!!!!! What about a warranty?!?!
I would suggest the following: Clean the liner with a stiff brush and water only. Buy Krylon gloss black paint. Get a little can of the brush on (or a spray can) and try it. It will look just fine. Even if for some reason you don't like it, you can still go spend your $500.
OR
Have the old liner sandblasted out and go get LINE-X with a Dupont Nason paint color match (it will NOT fade) and with a nationwide lifetime warranty.

the previous owner did had more then just the bed. The rockers were down, about 10" from the botton of the truck and up, and a few inches alown the wheelwell. Allone with the bed. So there a bit of the stuff. I was quoted about 2000 grand from the line-x guy. I am going to see more shops. For now, I am just going to paint it.
