south bend question

I have been looking at their dd clutches and was wondering what the differance between rigid and sprung? I have been told that I should get the 3600 ( most likely the 12cb for the sled), but has anyone driven the 3850 or 4200? Can these be driven daily? Why or why not? I don't mind a heavy pedal.

I think the srung hub is to kind of take some shock out of the drive line by giving a little on engagement. If you spend most of your time on street dont get the 3850 or up in my opinoin( do to my personal experiences). My buddys 06 just lost its 3850, daily driver, the fingers in the pressure plate twisted and toasted the whole clutch. Only 10k mile on it, but driven in to much stop and go traffic for that clutch. Best bet is call south bend and talk with peter and he will guide you to the right clutch.

Sprung hub has springs in the disc to dampen the vibrations from the engine to the drivetrain. The solid hub obviously lacks those springs, and will transfer vibrations. I daily drove a 3600# solid hub for two years, no complaints other than the slower shifting. It had a stiffer pedal to it, which I liked. My 12v has a 3250# sprung hub. Shifts faster and seems smoother. The 3250 has a diaphragm style pressure plate, while the 3600 is the older style that used the lever style pressure plate. I have heard the 3600's are available as a diaphragm now as well. Invest in a fluid damper with whatever one you go with.

I drive a 3850 12puck on the street. I don't have any complaints with it. It's ether ingaged or it's not. The pedal is not all that much heavyer than the stock. got used to it in a week or two" i have got the hyd upgrade ". It shifts slower than the OFE I had. but I don't drag race, got it for pulling. I have got about 7000miles on mine. The sprung hub is quiter than the solid, less rattle from what i was told. I beleave it is suppose to shift easyer also. never had the solid

Do you need a dd because of the power you want or are you going to sled pull? Just asking cause I have one of their single disc clutches and have yanked two mobile homes with it no problem.

Just be sure to get a SFI approved clutch. I would get a 3600 12cb, I had a 3250 & It didn't like the heat very much. Any more pressure & you will shorten the clutch life on a DD.

Yes they are sfi unless its the ductile iron which is a lot cheaper than the others. sfifoundation.com will answer all the other questions. A 3600 is a lot easier to drive on the street, but I drove a 3850 for 20000 miles on the street in an 07. The 3850 is a little bit heavy for a daily driver but will hold up better sled pulling.

I have the SBC DD 3850 Street Comp 12 CB Rigid in my dually and i pull a 40 trailer with it and an every day driver and have no problems what so ever lover it. Also for sled pulling works AWSOME. It does rattle a little bit when the clutch is in but i think that is norm for a DD clutch

The sprung hub makes them a lot quieter the 3600 in my 97 doesn't rattle hardly any, but the 3850 that was in my 07 rattled a lot and you could hear it all the time the clutch was disengaged.

Both my 3250 sprung and 3600 unsprung make noise when the clutch is disengaged. They are about the same volume too. With the windows rolled up, you really don't hear it though.
